Annual Meetings of Central Council

Held m Napier, Sept. 29th-oct. Ist, 1926

The ninth meeting of Central Council was held at the Hospital, Napier beginning at 9.30 a.m., September 29th, 1926. Present: Miss Macdonald, President, Mrs. Thompson, Misses B. Maclean, Vice-President, and Rendall (Hawke's Bay) ; Mrs. Kidd, Vice-President, Mrs. Hamilton Smith and Miss Austen (Auckland) ; Miss Moore, A.R.R.C, Vice-President, Misses H. Maclean, R.R.C, McKenny, Thurston, C.8.E., R.R.C, and West (Wellington) ; Miss Hood, Vice-President (Canterbury) ; Miss Young, Vice-President (also deputy delegate for Southland), and Miss Pattrick (Otago) ; Miss Inglis, hon. general secretary. Miss Bicknell, A.R.R.C, Director of Nursing, was present on September 30th and October lst. Miss Macdonald welcomed the delegates and hoped that their stay m Napier would be a pleasant one. She mentioned the loss that the nursing profession had sustained m the death of Mrs. Grace Neill. The minutes of the last Conference were read and confirmed, and the correspondence of the year was also read. A motion of sympathy with the relatives of Mrs. Grace Neill was passed, members standing m silence. REMITS 1. That all nurses m training be admitted as associate members of the N.Z.T.N.A. 2. That membership cards be issued once a year similar to those used by Ladies' Clubs, to be used by nurses visiting other centres. 3. That the financial year of all branches end at the same time.

4. That the Central Council should represent very strongly to the Nurses' and Midwives' Registration Board the necessity of retaining the services of the two nurses specially trained to teach post-graduate work at the Otago University. 5. That if the Department of Health are not prepared to pay the salaries as a whole, would they subsidise any money given for the purpose. 6. That the N.Z. Red Cross Executive be asked if they would help to further nursing education by giving financial aid. 7. That any branch of the N.Z.T.N.A. sending a delegate to a meeting of Central Council should pay the delegates' travelling expenses. 8. That nurses, not being members of this Association, should, if working through a bureau, pay more for their cases than members of the N.Z.T.N.A. 9. That nurses from overseas should not be allowed so long a time as six months before joining the Association, when working through a Nurses' Bureau. 10. That long distance calls for engaging a nurse be charged to the patient. 11. That all branches be urged to do their utmost to procure new members for the Association by entertaining newly qualified nurses and by other means. 12. That the "Objects of the Association" be printed at the beginning of all branch rules. 13. That medical members of branch Councils should be honorary only.
