Sister Elsie Mackenzie, who was on the staff of the Western Suburbs Hospital, Sydney, has now gone to Jeraldine Hospital near Melbourne. Sister Eileen Knight, Matron of the Karitane Hospital, Christchurch, has

resigned that position and intends visiting England. Miss Jacob, from Sydney, who has recently taken her Karitane course, is acting temporarily as Matron. Sister Annie Wright has been appointed Sub-Matron of Southland Hospital. Sister Crombie, trained m Southland Hospital, has re-joined the nursing staff. Sister Belcher, trained m Oamaru, and St. Helen's, Invercargill, has also joined the staff of Southland Hospital. Nurse Ellis is relieving Nurse Ogilvie as Plunket Nurse at Upper Hutt. Sister Doris Christian returned to New Zealand m June from her special course at Bradford College under the Red Cross organisation. After completing that course she took her midwifery training at the British Homes for Mothers and Babies at Woolwich. Sister Ogilvie, of the Wellington Hospital, has entered St. Helen's Hospital for her midwifery training. Sister Ann Kirkpatrick, who has recently returned from her studies at Bedford College m Public Health work, for which she was sent by the Red Cross, is now m Dunedin, which is to be her headquarters for work. Sister Kirkpatrick took her midwifery course at the British Homes for Mothers and Babies at Woolwich, on which institution she has contributed a very interesting article. Sister Mary Lambie has returned from her course m Public Health at Toronto, to which she was sent by the Health Department m preparation to join the teaching staff at the Otago University for the Diploma of Nursing. Pending Southern arrangements regarding that course, Sister Lambie has entered St. Helen's Hospital, Wellington, to gain her midwifery certificate. Nurse Mcßride, trained at St. Helen's, Wellington, who had been helping Sister Reid m her District work, has now joined Miss Paterson's staff at her Maternity Nursing Home at New Plymouth. Nurse Levy, recently trained at St. Helen's Hospital, Wellington, has gone

to Raetahi to take charge of a private maternity hospital. Mrs. Stuart Richardson and Miss Maud Mitchell, whose return from their trip abroad is recorded m our last number, have taken rooms at Dr. Steele's house m Willis Street, where they intend to carry on their massage and electrical practice. Sister James, of the staff of the Red Cross Home, Hobson Street, has returned from a holiday trip to Sydney, which she much enjoyed. Sister Ida Willis has been spending three months' leave m Sydney with her sister, and has much improved m health. We understand Miss Christian is to be stationed m the North Canterbury District vice Sister Clark, who recently resigned. Nurses Robson, R.N., Simpson, R.N., Bates, R.N., and Stewart, Rj.N., recently of Auckland Hospital, have just completed their midwifery training at St. Helen's Hospital, Auckland. Nurse Claxton, R.N., of Thames Hospital, has just returned after having been given leave by her Board to take her midwifery training at St. Helen's Hospital, Auckland. Miss D. Wright, R.N., Sister at the Isolation Hospital, Rotorua, has returned after having been given leave for midwifery training at St. Helen's Hospital, Auckland. Miss G. Whyte, R.N., recently proprietress of the Aotea Private Hospital, Otahuhu, has just completed her midwifery training at St. Helen's Hospital, Auckland. She has been appointed as Maori Health Nurse, with headquarters at Auckland. Miss Kennair, R.N., R.M., Maori Health Nurse, has been transferred from Auckland to Te Kaha district. Miss C. Blackie, R.N., R.M., who recently returned from the Islands, has been re-appointed as Maori Health Nurse to the Tolago Bay district. Miss E. M. Leslie, Maori Health Nurse, Rawene, Hokianga, has been granted leave to take her midwifery training at St. Helen's Hospital, Auckland.

Miss J. Paora, R.N., R.M., has resigned her position as Maori Health Nurse, Tolago Bay, m view of her approaching marriage. Miss M. Cartwright, R.N., R.M., for health reasons has been transferred from her district as Maori Health Nurse, Te Karaka, and is at present on duty, after a few week's rest, m the Napier district engaged m inoculations (anti-typhoid) among the Maoris affected by the recent epidemic. Miss R. Turner, R.N., R.M., recently District Nurse under the Waikato Hospital Board at Mokai, Taupo, has been appointed as Maori Health Nurse to Te Karaka, Gisborne. Miss M. A. Hall, R.N., R.M., has been granted a year's leave without pay to visit England. She intends taking up some post-graduate courses m Public Health work as time permits. Miss A. Jewiss, R.N., R.M., has been appointed as relief Maori Health Nurse m Miss Hall's absence from Bay of Islands. Miss Jewiss' present headquarters are at Kaikohe, where she shares the small Cottage Hospital (Maternity) run by Sisters Earle and White under the Bay of Islands Hospital Board. Miss L. A. Hill, R.N., R.M., has been appointed to relieve Miss E. M. Leslie at Rawene as Maori Health Nurse during the time of the latter's midwifery training. Miss R. M. Pain, R.N., R.M., has resigned her position as Matron of the Cottage Hospital, Ohura, m view of her approaching marriage. Miss E. Martyn, N.Z.A.N.S., has been ill for some time. We are pleased to learn she is now making an excellent recovery. Miss R. Sterritt, R.N., R.M., Matron of Monganui Hospital, has resigned her position. Miss J. Short (late of Auckland Hospital) has been appointed District Nurse under the Waikato Hospital Board to replace Miss R. Turner (resigned) at Mokai . Miss W. White, A.R.R.C., has commenced her midwifery training at St. Helen's Hospital, Wanganui.

Miss E. J. W. Chappell, R.N., R.M has returned from England, and is arranging to take over again her private maternity hospital at Tauranga. Miss M. Kelsall, R.N., has recently opened a Convalescent and Chronic Home at 12 Pah Road, Epsom. Miss Ruth Gilmer is leaving for a visit to Australia m August. Prior to her departure Mrs. Sadd gave a bridge party, at which many old friends were present. Notes from Patea Sister Fraser has resigned from the Patea Hospital, prior to her marriage to Mr. Wm. Patterson. Before Sister left Patea several pleasant functions took place m her honour. Mrs Shields, of "Fallow Lea," gave a delightful linen afternoon. The drawing-room, which was beautifully decorated m glorious autumn flowers and leaves, was thronged with Sister's friends, each bringing a dainty present to show their regard, and to wish both Sister and Mr. Patterson all happiness. Then Mrs. J. Pearce, of "Cawood,"

Whenuakura, gave one of her wellknown afternoons — a kitchen tea this time — when every conceivable utensil for kitchen use was piled up on the drawing-room table — even the fryingpan was not forgotten. Sister Fraser, m a neat speech, promised faithfully to use every article m turn, and to make "savoury dishes for her husband." The Patea Hospital could not let Sister go without a farewell dinner. Also a welcome to Sister Wallace, who was appointed to the position. This was the "Nurses' Evening" : they decorated the dining-room very tastefully m cream and red — the colour scheme carried out on the dinner-table. Sister and Mr. Patterson were the guests of the evening. After the usual toasts were proposed and honoured, Nurse Evenson, m a very neat speech, presented Sister with a very nice silver teapot from the nurses. The dinner went off very well, and the singing of "For they are jolly good fellows" ended a merry dinner party.
