Nurses' and Midwives' Registration Board

A meeting of the Nurses and Midwives' Registration Board was held m the office of the Chairman, Parliamentary Library Buildings, Wellington, at 2.30 p.m., on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 16th, 17th and 18th June, 1926. Present: Dr. M. H. Watt( Chairman), Miss Inglis, Miss Kohn, Miss Bicknell, Dr. Wm. Young.

At the request of the Board, Miss Airine Pope, M.A., M.S.A., was requested to draw up a scheme to be adopted as the standard of cookery to be required of candidates for registration as general nurses.

At the last meeting it was resolved to adopt this scheme m its entirety as a syllabus for the course of cookery approved by the Registered Board as required under Clause (c) sub-section (1) Section 7 of the regulations.

The following text and reference works were prescribed by the Board for use m training schools: —

(1) For General Nurses: — Anatomy and Physiology: "Human Physiology" (W. Furneaux), revised by W. A.

Smart, M.8. ; "Human Physiology" (J. Thornton, M.A.). Nursing: "A Handbook for Nurses (J. K. Watson, M.D.) ; "A Complete System of Nursing" (Millicent Ashdown). Surgical Ward Work: "Surgical Ward Work and Nursing" (A. Miles, M.D.). General: "Gould's Pocket Medical Dictionary."

(2) For Midwives and Maternity Nurses: "Short Practice of Midwifery for Nurses" (H. Jellett, M.D.) ; "Midwifery for Nurses" (Dr. Jardine).

A Syllabus of Instruction and Training to be undergone by candidates for the State examinations m Midwifery and Maternity Nursing as provided for m Sub-section (3) of Section 10 and Sub-section (4) of Section 10 of the regulations gazetted under the Nurses and Midwives Registration Act, 1925, was discussed m detail.

It was decided that the Syllabus should be sent to the training schools concerned m order to assist instructors m arranging the courses of training to fit m with the new scheme, of which it is hoped to publish details m next issue of "Kai Tiaki."
