New Zealand Army Nursing Service
Owing to the lack of response from former members it may be necessary to enrol civilian nurses upon the active list for duty m military camps.
In case however there should be some misunderstanding as to what is involved, it must be stated that members who are at present on the Reserve or Retired Lists may be placed on the Active List for Territorial Service provided their age is below fifty years.
If the fear of being unable to leave hospital positions may with some act as a deterrent, it must be pointed out that Hospital Boards will be requested by the Matron-in-Chief to grant leave for this purpose as required.
It is not anticipated that there will be any difficulty m this respect, as private firms as well as Government departments already release their employees for military duties.
Though no definite decision has been arrived at, it is hoped that a minimum uniform outfit will be provided for nurses going into camp.
While it is desired to give former members preference, it must be understood that the unit must be fully enrolled m time for the camps to be held during the summer and autumn.
Until the end of August applications will be received from members — after that date the claims of civilian nurses will be considered. — J. Bicknell, Matron-in-Chief.
