Presentation to Dr. Douglas Anderson

An enjoyable afternoon was spent in the draw-ing-room at St. Helens Hospital, Durham Street, Christchurch, on November 28th, when a large gathering of present and past pupils and nurses met to make a presentation to Dr. Douglas Anderson, who is severing his connection with the hospital. The room was artistically decorate! with bowls of pink sweet peas and roses, and during the afternoon musical items, which were greatly appreciated, were given by Nurse Bellworthy, Mrs. Keay and Dr. Douglas Anderson. The matron, on behalf of the nurses, present .a Dr. Anderson with a fitted picnic basket, and hoped that although he was leaving the hospital he would not forget the pupils he had had during his five years of office. Mrs. Anderson was presented with a beautiful bouquet of roses.

Dr. Telford expressed thanks on behalf of the Health Department, for the splendid work done by Dr. Anderson, and at the same time welcomed Dr. Lindsay, who will succeed Dr. Anderson. The matron, on behalf of the nurses, also welcomed Dr. Lindsay. Dr. Anderson, in thanking the matron and nurses for their beautiful and most useful gift, spoke of the need of a new hospital, and hoped that before long he would hear of the erection of the building. He also thanked the Health Department, through Dr. Telford, for their kind thoughts and good wishes. Miss Pike, matron of Essex Home, also spoke in appreciative terms of N Dr. Anderson. Dr. Lindsay thanked those present for the welcome he had received, and hoped that he would be able to carry on successfully the splendid work done by Dr. Anderson in the past five years.
