International Course of Training for Public Health Nurses

In the "British Journal of Nursing" for July 14th we read of the presentation ot certificates to the students who recently passed the examination. Among these was Sister Katherine Clark, A.R.R.C., who passed with distinction m social administration. Sister Clark was the second student sent by the Red Cross from New Zealand. Among the students were two from France, two from Roumania, one from Austria, one from Czecho-Slovakia, one from Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Siam, Italy, Brazil, and Great Britain, and two from Spain. The Director-General of the Red Cross Societies, m presenting the certificates, laid stress on the influence of the course, wlr'ch, he said, was "not restricted to Public Health, but was almost political m its scope." He could assure the pupils

that they had an immense opportunity of teaching Public Health nursing to their compatriots, and England's opportunity lay m the fact that we are a little ahead of other European countries. He hoped the ideals of the Public Health course might become something larger and that it might be a centre for expansion throughout the world — the nucleus of the expansion of the great light of Public Health nursing to dispel the ignorance which accounts for 85 per cent, of the illnesses from which the people suffer. Miss Clark, after completion of her course, went for six months to the Queen Mary's Maternity Hospital, Stratford, for midwifery training. Miss Webster, our first student, is now busily engaged m the Taranaki district, lecturing and demonstrating Home Nursing to large classes.
