Resignations, Appointments, Etc.

.Miss Drummond, late N.Z.A.N.S., was appointed matron of the Waipukurau Hospital. Miss Drummond has been on the staff of the hospital several times, and has acted as relieving matron on several occasions, so is well acquainted with her new duties. She was latterly on the staff of the Pukeora Sanatorium.

Sisters Musker and Christian, of the Christchurch Hospital, were appointed •sisters on the staff of the Apia Hospital, Samoa, and left m February with Miss Butler, the new matron.

Sister Montgomery, late N.Z.A.N.S., and her sister, who recently completed her training at the Auckland Hospital, have opened a private hospital at Mount Eden, Auckland, for 16 patients. The sisters purchased tho house and have added considerably to it — up-to-date theatre, sterilising-rooms, and every convenience for nursing. They intended building a cottage for the staff, which is to be four trained nurses and two domestics, but instead have altered and fixed up the large garage into very satisfactory sleeping quarters.

Miss Christine Smith has resigned from the military service and joined .Misses Brandon and Haste m their massage and electrical rooms m Willis Street, Wellington.

Miss Nicholson has boon appointed charge sister of the massage department, Trentham, vice Miss Smith.

Miss Ariell, of the Dunedin Massage School, has joined the staff at Trentham, especially for the treatment of the children! suffering from the effects of infantile paralysis.

Mrs. Keay has bought Judge Gillies' old house m Epsom, and is going to open a large private maternity hospital.

Sister Margaret Blackie, who is native health nurse at Taupo, is to be relieved for six months m order to take her midwifery training at St. Helens Hospital, Invercargill. Sister Blackie is on full pay while taking her training.

Sister Ethel Watkins Taylor is resigning her position as native health nurse at Te Karaka, on account of her approaching marriage. Nurse Enid Knight, who has been stationed at Waipu, will probably be transferred to Te Karaka, which is one of the first stations established for native nursing, and where the residents and thc Hospital Board have taken much interest m the nurse and where it is intended to build a new cottage for her.

Sister (J rigor, A.R.R.C, has entered the Otago School of Massage, Dunedin.

Sister C. Blackie, late N.Z.A.N.S., has taken over the matronship of the Whakatane Hospital. A new hospital is shortly to be erected by the Hospital Board. Miss North, late matron while under the Anglican Mission, has joined the Health Department as native health nurse at Whakatane.

Nurse Lilian Alexander, of the Nuhaha Mission, has been appointed to the Health Department as nurse for the natives, to work from th? mission house. A new building is to be erected there as a hospital for the natives.

Mrs. Buchanan, R.R.C. (Sister McNie) is now living at Hokitika, her husband, Dr. Buchanan, having been transferred from Waitahi to take charge of the Seaview Mental Hospital.

Nurses MacLellan and Walker have given up their private hospital at Hastings, and for the present intend to do private nursing. These nurses recently returned from a year's trip to England, where they had a delightful holiday.

Sister Elizabeth Smailes, A.R.R.C, has been appointed boarding-out officer under the Education Department, to be stationed at Nelson.

Sister Ruth Gilmer has returned to the military service and has been appointed charge sister at Pukeora Sanatorium.

The Sisters Everett have resigned from military service and left for America m the At he nic.

Sister Mandeno intends to open a small private hospital for medical and surgical cases m Te Awamutu.

The private hospital conducted for some years by the Misses Campbell, m Te Awamutu, is much missed.

Sister Minnie Walsh, who has previously spent several years m New Zealand, returned to Wellington m February. Miss Walsh was awarded the Royal Red Cross, 2nd Class, and received her decoration from the hands of His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales, when m Melbourne. Sister Walsh was on the staff of the Military Hospital, Caulfield, Melbourne, after her return from active service.

Sister Reid, who was for a time relieving district nurse to natives at Terahiwi, has been relieving Nurse O'Brien, St. Helens district midwife at Westport.

Sister Earp has gone to St. Helens, Wanganui, to take charge until Miss Elliott, the matron-elect, takes up duty.

Sister Ratliff, after having leave, is to take home-nursing classes m and around Wellington.

Sister Kearns, formerly sub-matron at St. Helens Hospital, Invercargill, is going through her course of training as a Plunket nurse at Karitane.

Sister Webster, who has been sister m charge of the Coronation Hospital, Cashmere Hills, has been appointed matron of the Jubilee Home, Christchurch.

Miss C A. Richards wrote that she and her sister, Ann, had left the Christchurch Hospital and were m Dunedin. They were intending shortly to have a trip to England with their parents.

Miss Higgins, matron of the Jubilee Home, Christchurch, for over 20 years, is retiring, and intends, after a visit to Australia, to live m Christchurch.

A farewell was tendered to Miss Higgins by the North Canterbury Hospital Board, who presented her with a travel-ling-rug and a purse containing six months' salary. By the staff of the Hospital Board, Miss Higgins was presented with a leather suit-case.

Sisters Greensill, Lucy McLeod, d'Emden, and C. Walker have been transferred from Trentham Hospital to Pukeroa Sanatorium.

Miss \. O'Callaghan, late N.Z.A.N.S., formerly of the Planes Private Hospital, Hastings, has taken up land with her sister north of Auckland, and is at present taking a course at the Ruakura State Farm.

Sister Daisy Anderson, late N.Z.A.N.S., has been appointed senior sister at Pleasant Valley Sanatorium. Sister Anderson attended lectures while a patient at Cashmere Sanatorium after returning from active service, and obtained the certificate of that institution for tuberculosis nursing.

It is regretted that the announcement was omitted from the January number of the appointment of Miss Polden, formerly matron of the Fever Hospital, Wellington, and before coming to New Zealand, matron of Bath Hospital, to the matronship of the Thames Hospital. Miss Polden has been at Thames since November, 1920.

Misses E. and R. White have transferred their private hospital, Lake Road, Hawera, to Drs. Buist,McShie, and Thomson. Miss I. J. Siddons, trained at New Plymouth, is now matron.

Miss Rothwell has resigned the matronship of the Hamilton Hospital, which she has held for about 20 years. She has spent 29 years m the service of the Waikato Hospital Board. Tlie Hospital Board granted Miss Rothwell three months' leave on full pay and a pension of £2 per week for life. Miss Rothwell does not leave the hospital till May.

Miss Mary Bagley has resigned tlie matronship of the Waihi Hospital. She intends to take her midwifery training at (lisborne St. Helens.

Sister Alexander, of Waihi Hospital, has been appointed sister at Thames Hospital.

Mrs. C. E. McLaren has been appointed matron of the Seacliff Mental Hospital, m succession to Miss W. MacDougall. Mrs. McLaren was formerly matron of Avondale Mental Hospital, and more recently matron of Tokaanui Mental Hospital.

Miss MacDougall has been appointed matron of Avondale Mental Hospital, Auckland. Miss MacDougall, before goin g to Seacliff, was matron of Mount View Mental Hospital before that building was demolished.

Miss Bicknell, Deputy Matron-in-Chief, has returned to Wellington after three months' leave of absence, most of which was spent visiting relations and friends m Christchurch, Dunedin, and Invercargill.

Sister Olive. Pearce, late of Auckland Hospital, and m charge of the massage department there, has entered St. Helens Hospital, Christchurch, for maternity training.

Sister Elsie Stronach has been temporarily filling the position of boarding-out officer at Auckland, under the Education Department, Mrs. Mayne, formerly district nurse at Otorohanga, having resigned that position.

Mrs. B. A. King has opened a private hospital at 12 Elm Grove, Christchurch.

Miss Gertrude Mason, who recently resigned the position of matron of Tauranga Hospital, which she had held since the opening of the hospital ten years ago, has accepted the position of home sister at the Gisborne Hospital. Before leaving Tauranga, Miss Mason was presented by the Board and some of her friends there with a gold wristlet watch.

Miss Perrin went to Tauranga Hospital to relieve on Miss Mason's departure.

Nurse Mabel Sage is opening a nursing home at Te Coma, Princes Street, Otahuhu.

Nurse A. E. Wait writes to say that she is going to live m Melbourne. Her address: 32 Waterdale Road, Fairy Hills. Ivanhoe.

Mrs. Evans (Sister Salmon) writes that she passed the C.M.B. examination, and was on the staff of the Paget House Maternity Hospital, Brixton, under Sister Olive Hayden, whose name is so well known m midwifery work m London. Mrs. Evans had already passed her sanitary inspector's examination. She finds the midwifery work most interesting, and hopes to return to New Zealand shortly, and to carry on that work.

Sister Howatson has been appointed theatre sister at the Thames Hospital; Sister Humphries, sister of the men's surgical wards; and Sister Alexander m charge of the women's wards. Sister Mathieson resigned on account of her approaching marriage.

Miss A. Baird has taken over Miss Lyall's private hospital, Elizabeth Street, Timaru.

Nurses Beaton and Thomson have taken over Mrs. A. Bell's private hospital, Thames Street, Oamaru.

Miss J. W. M. Williamson has taken charge of a private hospital m Leet Street, Invercargill.

Miss Buckley has gone to Christchurch to take up her position as nurse inspector of hospitals at the Health Department.

Miss Grace Davison has opened a private maternity hospital at Revans Street, Peatherston.

Sisters Guthrie and Fraser have opened a private hospital m Dannevirke.

There has been quite a number of changes m the military service lately. Sister Commons, who has been m charge of the infantile paralysis wards, Rotorua, has resigned owing to the illness of her parents, and is now at her home m Epsom, Auckland. Sisters Jackson, Rountree, Maxfield, and Person have also resigned for similar reasons. Sister A. Philpotts is visiting Australia, having been demobilised from the N.Z.A.N.S. Sister Haliburton, late of King George Hospital, Rotorua, has resigned, and is to be married shortly. Sister Evelyn Brooke, R.R.C, who since returning from active service has been matron of the Featherston and Narrow Neck Hospitals, is now r m Christchurch, and is to be the matron of the Rannerdale Home, Christchurch, which will be opened shortly for incurable soldiers. Sister Jean Erwin has been transferred to Hanmer, and is taking charge of the messroom, vice Sister Mills, avlio is reporting to the Rannerdale Home, Christchurch, for duty. Sisters E. Child and A. Miller have been transferred to Rotorua. Sisters Greensill, d'Eniden, L. C. Macleod, and C. Walker are transferred to Pukeroa Sanatorium. Sister Crompton, who has been two years m the Cashmere Military Sanatorium, is now on duty at Trentham.

Miss J. M. Verey and Mrs. Charters have taken over Mrs. Hall's private hospital, Fitzherbcrt Street, Palmersto'i North.

Mrs. Woods (Sister P. Williams) has returned from England with her little son. She intends to live m Auckland. Her husband is at present stationed m Mesopotamia.

Miss Geddes is m charge of Dr. Gor don's private hospital, Stratford.

Miss M. Edmundson have given up her private hospital at Takaka, Nelson, and is now on the staff of the Otaki Sanatorium.

Miss Hurst, formerly matron of Nelson Hospital, has taken over the private hospital, Coll m gwood Street, Nelson.

Nurses McWilliam, McLean, and Rendall have opened a private hospital m Avenue Road, Hastings.

Miss T. Butler, recently demobilised from Pukeora military sanatorium, has been appointed matron of Apia Hospital, Samoa, and left for Samoa m February.

Miss H. Kennedy, recently trained at the Alexandra Home, Wellington, is at present m charge of Mrs. Cronin's private hospital, Owen Street, Wellington.

Miss M. E. Brown, formerly a sister on the staff of Wellington Hospital, and act-ing-matron of Gisborne Hospital, has been appointed sister-in-charge of the Ewart Hospital, for phthisical hospital patients, Wellington.

Sister Pascoe has heen appointed Plunket nurse at Nelson, and will leave to take up her duties early m April.

Mrs. H. M. Robertson, recently on the staff of Wellington Hospital, is at present doing private nursing m Ilawke's Bay, but hopes shortly to enter St. Helens Hospital, for her midwifery training.

Miss Elizabeth Neville, trained at Wellington Hospital, has opened a convalescent home at Tavistock Road, Lyall Bay.

Mrs. Drewitt, acting-matron of Greymouth Hospital, was given a farewell last month (March), and was the recipient of presentations from the hospital patients, inmates of the Old People's Home, medical superintendent, nursing and domestic staffs.

A very enjoyable evening Avas spent m the lounge-room of the Pukeora Sanatorium recently, when opportunity was taken to make two presentations. Colonel Short made a brief, eulogistic speech, following which Sergeant Mitchell made the presentations. To Mrs. Shaw, who had taught the patients basket and leather work, etc., and who has been extremely popular with "the boys," was given two beautiful jewel cases, and to Miss Drummond, who was leaving to take charge of the district hospital at Waipukurau, was given a silver teapot and spoons. Mrs. Shaw is leaving for a visit to England, and both she and Miss Drummond will be greatly missed at the Sanatorium.
