Marriages and Engagements

Malcolm — Mclntyre. — On September 1, 1920, at Morven, by the Rev. W. F. Evans, Ealph, second son of Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Malcolm, Oamaru, to Beatrice, third daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Mclntyre, Morven (late of "Hopetoun," Gore).

Spear— Barnes.— On October 20, 1920, at St. James' Church, Wellington, by Rev. W. Shirer, Cyril Saunderson, son of Mrs. and the late Frederick Spear, of Nelson, to Ethel Hannah (N.Z.A.N.S.), daughter of the late Philip and Eleanor Barnes, of Cornwall (England).

Burch— Scott,— On October 21st, 1920, at Regent Square Presbyterian Church, London, by the Rev. Ivor Robertson, M.A., Ernest ' William Burch, Flesk Lodge, Wellington Square, Cheltenham, England, to Isabella, youngest daughter of the late Lewis Scott, Timaru. Sister Scott, A.R.R.C., was one of the first 50 nurses to leave New Zealand for active service.

On December 31st, Nurse Muriel Mira Bayley, trained at Hamilton Hospital, was married to Mr. Thomas Valintine, son of Dr. T. H. Valintine, Inspector-General of Hospitals. Her home will be in the Waikato District.

A wedding of interest was solemnised at St. Stephen's Church, Marton, on Wednesday, October 13, when Mr. Frank R. H. Brice, a member of one of the oldest families in the district, was married to Miss Isla Stewart, formerly a member of the N.Z.A.N.S., and daughter of Mrs. Alex Stewart, Masterton, a well-known Wairarapa resident. The chui'ch was beautifully decorated with white flowers and greenery, and the bridal party stood under streamers of white ribbon. Conspicuous amongst the decorations was a Union Jack, used as a special mark of honour to those who had [given active service to their King and country, the best man and groomsman all b.eing returned soldiers. Sisters Flowers and Elsie McKenzie, late N.Z.A.X.S., and Sister Alice Anderson and Miss Alexa Stewart, were bridesmaids. Mrs. Brice 's future home is in Marton.

Sister Eileen Holmwood, late N.Z.A.N.S., now Mrs. Midwood, was married in Tasmania, late in 1920. The account of her wedding, which she sent was unfortunately lost. She now writes that her husband has been transferred to Perth, and her address is L99 St. George's Terrace. She likes her new home very much. (In the last issue the name "Midwood" was given as "Michard").

Sister Elsie Cook, late N.Z.A.N.S. and A.1.F., was married to Mr, Thnperley, also a returned soldier, in Melbourne, on October 20th, and has now gone to Western Australia to live.

Miss C. Byers, St. Helens district midwife, Ashburton, was married in December, and is now Mrs. Rountree, c/o N.Z. Refrigerating Company, Islington, Christchurch.

Sister Margaret Smith, trained in Christchurch, St. Helens, Dunedin, and Karitane Hospitals, was married on October 21st, 1920, to Mr. H. C. Anderson, of Musselburgh, Dunedin.

Mrs. Bartie, trained at St. Helens Hospital, Gisborne, was married in September to Mr. Middleton, of Gisborne, where she still intends to carry on her midwifery practice.

Nurse Dorothy Farley was married on September 16, 1920, to* Mr. William J. Fisher. Her home is at Goden, Te Aroha.

.Miss E. (J. Wells, trained at St. Helens, Wellington, and for several years district maternity nurse at Wanganui, was married in October to Mr. Clayton.

Nurse Helen F. Tait, of Cfaristchurch Hospital, and later health nurse for natives, was married at St. Andrew's Church, Christchurch, on January sth, at 2.30 p.m., to Mr. H. D. Oooksley, by the Rev. R. M. Ryburn. The bride's frock was of ivory georgette and lace over silk the sam-e shade; veil; bouquet of pale heliotrope and cream sweet peas. Her veil was worn over the face with a wreath of silver and heliotrope. Her sister Nora was her only bridesmaid. She wore heliotrope erepe de chine, and a Leghorn hat trimmed with heliotrope and primroses. Her bouquet was composed of cream roses. A reception was * afterwards held at Mr. and Mrs. Tait'vs residence, Hawford Road, Opawa. The bride received a great many beautiful presents, among which were a set of stainless cutlery, from the staff of the Health Department, and a unique set of glass fruit dishes, from her Maori patients at "Tuahiwi." The bride's going-away costume was grey colour, with grey and blue hat to match. Mr. and Mrs. Cooksley spent their honeymoon in Dunedin, and have now gone on to Wharetoa, Otago, their future home, where Mr. Cooksley has a farm.

Nurse Norma Shapland, recently trained at Hokianga, is now married to Mr. Fred Lees, of Kahikatoa, Kohu Kohu, Hokianga.

Nurse Ruby M. D. Lepine was recently married to Mr. Harry E. Jones, and will live in Gisborne for the future.

Mrs. F. Galloway, widow of the late Wm. Galloway, of Auckland, to Reginald W. Mander, oldest son of Mrs. A. J. Mander, of Remuera, Auckland.

A quiet wedding took place at St. Mark's Church, Martgatainoka, on the 15th of December, when Miss Mona Pilkiuton, late of the Greytown Hospital, nursing sin IT, and fourth daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. Pilkinton, Mangatainoka, was married to Mr. William A. Hutton, Mayor of (Jreytown, and fourth son of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Hutton, Kelburn. The Rev. R. Herman officiated at the cereceremony. Miss Eileen Pilkinton attended her sister as bridesmaid, and Mr. lTllett Pilkinton carried out the duties of best man. Aftar the ceremony a reception was held in Pahiatua, and later in the afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Hutton left by motor for Wellington, en route for Christchui'ch, where they intend spending a week or two prior to a motoring tour through Taranaki and Hawke's Bay.

Miss Ada M'Cullogh, of London Hospital, was married to Mr. Fred Davies, of Levin. Mr. Boden igave the bride away, the ceremony, at St. John's Chuirch, being performed by the Rev. Mr. Gibb. Miss Johnston was bridesmaid, and Mr. Best best man. The wedding breakfast was held at Mrs. Boden 'vs.
