CHRISTMAS AT ST. HELENS, AUCKLAND.
Three little New Zealanders chose to arrive in the Dominion on Christmas Day, but after welcoming these little ones the staff relaxed into the holiday spirit, and entertained each other and their patients. One dressed as Santa Claus, and paid a visit all round, and was received with great laughter. The little hospital was gaily decorated, which made the patients feel that it was Christmas and a festive season. At the Nurses 1 Home, on New Year's Eve, a function was held to welcome in the New Year, to which the matron and sisters were invited. The Home was decorated for a mock wedding and wedding breakfast. Everything was well carried out and much enjoyed
The very serious accident sustained by Dr. Grower, of Hamilton Hospital, when acting as Father Christinas in the children's ward, is a warning and a reminder of the inflammable nature of cotton wool.
When taking down the first toy, the doctor's dress caught fire, and his hands were very severely burnt, the sad accident casting' a great gloom upon the Christmas festivities.
