MISS BROWNE

Miss Browne, who has been matron of the New Plymouth Hospital for the last twenty years, left on Friday last for Auckland, where after a fortnight's holiday she will take up the position of matron at the Te Waikato Sanatorium. General regret was felt at Miss Browne\s departure, from the hospital, where she has so successfully carried out her duties for so many years. Before leaving she was made the recipient of many handsome presents, both from her outside friends and hospital. The medical staff case of silver -backed hair brushes, etc ; nursing staff ; gold wristlet watch suitably inscribed (a number of our nurses who (have recently left the hospital joined the presentation) ; domestic staff and porters, a pair of solid silver candlesticks ; patients in hospital, a leather handbag and fountain pen. The Mayor and Mayoress presented Miss Browne with a purse of sovereigns, the gift of the people of New Plymouth and surrounding districts. The sovereigns were enclosed in a silver bag given by the Mayoress, Mrs. Burgess. Miss Browne was also much feted by her many New Plymouth friends. Ed. No tk . — lt is pleasing to read of the appreciation of the public, as well as of her immediate staff, of the good and devoted work of a matron covering so many years in one hospital.
