Medical Nursing.
13th June, 1917, Time allowed : Three hours. N.B. — Candidates are expected to answer briefly, and only exactly what is asked. 1. State what you know of the nature, treatment, and after care of a case of infantile paralysis. 2. Outline the signs, symptoms, and treatment of acute inflammation of the kidney. What is the most serious complication, and how is it dealt with ? 3. What are the indications of — (a) Concealed haemorrhage and perforation of the bowel in enteric fever. (b) Pericarditis in rheumatic fever? (c) Acute intestinal obstruction in abdominal disease ? 4. In what form of illness are the following drugs employed, and what are the signs of overdosage ? (a) Arsenic. (b) Digitalis, (c) Potassium iodide. (d) Belladonna or atropine. 5. Prepare a detailed diet-sheet suitable for the beginning of the second week of convalescence from enteric fever. State generally the method you adopt in feeding a patient during the first three or , four days after hsematemesis. 6. Describe the course and treatment of a case of scarlet fever. Note the precautions you would take against the spread of infection if you were nursing the case at home.
