Fifth Contingent of New Zealand Nurses
In response to a request by Brigadier General Richardson, conveyed through the High Commissioner, a small contingent of twenty-five nurses was selected and sent for service m England. Some of the nurses went on transport duty and will be retained on their arrival and detailed for duty by the Principal Matron, Miss Thurston. Had it not been for the difficulties raised by the War Office m releasing for service with our own forces the nurses who have been working m Imperial Hospitals and Hospital Ships, it is probable this contingent would not have been required. We can, of course, only take it as a compliment to our nurses that the authorities did not wish to part with them. The nurses selected were ; —
