Maori Nurses
Nurse Akenehi Hei, whose interesting letter w T as published in the last issue, had some trying experiences after that date. A Maori girl died of typhoid fever in the little extemporised hospital, owing to perforation caused by her friends, in Nurse's absence, obeying the commands of the tohvmga, and giving her food. This, for the time, made
the nurses turn against her, and she was then sent to Parenga, where she did some good work in teaching the natives something of hygiene. She is now working at Russell, where there is an outbreak of typhoid among the Maoris. Nurse Heni Whangapuita, trained at the Wellington Hospital, has been sent to nurse some Maoris at Taumaranui with typhoid.
