STEWART ISLAND SUMMER CAMP 15-22 January 1965

Travel facilities to and from Invercargill Rail passenger services arrive in Invercargill from the north daily at 12.15 p.m. and 8.30 p.m. The train from Christchurch connects with the inter-island ferry service from Wellington to Lyttelton and from Invercargill the process is reversed—arrival at Wellington after an over-night crossing.

N.A.C. Friendship aircraft provide three inward and three outward flights a day including Saturdays and Sundays. Invercargill is also included in SPANZ and Mount Cook Airways' regular services. These and local air services, Southern Scenic Airways, Queenstown, Tourist Air Travel (Amphib) Invercargill, and Ritchie Air Services, Te Anau, connect many holiday resorts including the southern lakes and Milford Sound and offer almost unlimited scope for campers wishing to plan an extended stay in the south at the time of the camp and who prefer flying. Travel facilities to and from Stewart Island Ferry. The Stewart Island ferry "Wairua" sailings for January 1965 are as follows: Sails daily with exception of 2nd, 9th, 12th, 14th, 16th, 19th, 21st, 23rd, 26th, 28th, 30th, on which days there is no service. On the 22nd and 29th two trips are made. Normal sailings depart Bluff 8 a.m. and leave Stewart Island 1.45 p.m. The two extra sailings depart Bluff 5.30 p.m. and leave Stweart Island 7.30 p.m. The crossing takes 2| hours. All Sunday departures from the island are delayed till 3 p.m. Tourist Air Travel Grumman Widgeon Amphibian (4 passengers) tri-weekly service Mon., Wed., Fri., or by arrangement. Neave, proprietors, Halfmoon Bay. Tariff £2 per day; 80 guests. Arrangements have been made to ensure that the greater part of this accommodation

will be available to campers. Also, it has been arranged that those who book with "Ferndale" beyond the capacity of the house may use their own tents in an area close to the house on Mr. Neave’s property and have meals and use of lounge and bathrooms at the rate normally charged for meals, 225. per day. Accommodation will be booked as applied for: so campers who prefer not to bring their own tents and bedding should book early. "New Oban" Hotel. Mr. and Mrs. Lockett proprietors, Halfmoon Bay. Tariff £2 I Os. per day; 40 guests. Mr. Lockett has freely cooperated in offering a similar service for overflow; campers would use their own tents at the camping ground five minutes' walk from his hotel. Those who prefer licensed accommodation should therefore book early for full board, or, if that is filled, consider the alternative. Full use of house at meal rates in this case 245. per day.
