Stolen from Cashmere, during the night of the 28th ultimo, a light-grey vest and trousers, nearly new, the property or Richard Bell. Not identifiable. One McKendry, Irish, 41 years, sft. 7 or Bin., grey whiskers and hair, dressed in moleskin trousers and brown felt hat, is suspected.

Stolen from the person of Frederick Early, at the Railway Station, Christchurch, a few minutes before 5 p.m., 6th instant, a black Morocco pocket-book with elastic band, containing 255. in silver, out of . which a threepenny piece with a hole in it is identifiable. Timothy Hayes, Irish, 45 years, sft. 6in., stout build, dark-brown hair and whiskers, turning grey, impediment in his speech, dressed in brown sac coat, moleskin trousers, black wide-awake hat, who went to the Rakaia, is suspected.

Stolen at 2.30 p.m., 9th instant, a cheque, on the Colonial Bank of New Zealand, for £4 Bs. 6d,, drawn by W. Bates, in favour of Mason, Struthers & Co., and since cashed at the Bank. Valentine Shott, a German, 40 years, sft. Bin., medium build, clean shaved, is suspected, as the cheque was dropped near his house by Bates’ errrnd-boy, and was presented by suspect at the Bank, and cashed, but the clerks fail to identify him. No other evidence can be got to connect him with the offence.

Stolen from Ick’s sale yards, Christchurch, on the 10th instant, a black horse, aged, short tail, wind-galled in fore-leg, branded D near shoulder, ah old saddle and bridle, saddle sewn and patched with twine; the property of John Dipenheim'poff Papanui. . .Nathan, a half-caste Maori, 26 years, sft. 7in., slight build, and a little black hair on face, • is suspected, as he was .seen riding a horse of similar description through Christchurch. Warrant . will issue upon recovery of the horse.

Stolen from the New Inn, Ashburton, between 3 p.m,. and 11 p.m., 10th instant, a cash bos with handle broken off, containing one £lO, one £5, and about thirty-five £l notes, one sovereign, ten half-sovereigns, a cheque, in favour of James Wilson, for £3, an 1.0. U. of James Berry, for £3 75., an 1.0. U. of William Wilson, for £5, about £7 in silver, Eire Insurance Policy, for £750, on hotel, copy of deeds of land and hotel’ hotel license, and sundry other documents • the property of James Wallace, proprietor.’ Cash box and' papers : only identifiable. Susan Lynch, about 14 years of age, 4ft. 6in., fresh complexion, cunning look, who was servant at the hotel, and knew where the cash box was kept, is suspected, as her mother, who is loose drunken character, was hanging about outside the hotel on the evening in question, and the girl kept running in and • out and behaving in a very unusual manner. She had been previously detected; in stealing, and had access to the bed-room where the cash box was kept.

Stolen from the boarding-house of Mrs. Wilson, at Addington, between the 15th November last and the 29th ultimo, a silver hunting lever watch, maker, Whitmore and Son, No. 6744; the property of Thomas Moody, and identifiable.

Stolen from Keith Wilson’s, Cambridge Terrace, Christchurch, between 9 a.m., 27th, and 8 a.m., 28th ultimo, a plain gold band with diamond set in it, Mr. Sandstein’s iuitals inside, and 18c. Identifiable. Elizabeth Lea, charwoman, 49 years sft. 2i.n., stout build, dark complexion, thin face, brown hair, still in Christchurch, is suspected. ,

Stolen from the dwelling of Frederick William Jones, residing behind the Criterion hotel, Gloucester street, Christchurch, between 5 and 6 p.m., on the 2nd instant, eleven £1 notes, bank or numbers unknown, two half-sovereigns, a gold ring with black stone, a gold chain, link pattern, with greenstone attached, a gold locket with portrait of female inside, one side of the locket broken off. All identifiable, except the money. A very doubtful case.

A warrant of commitment in default of distress has issued from the E.M. Court, Ashburton, against Patrick Brick. —-For description see Police Gazette, 187 page 83. He is believed to have lately crossed into Otago. • —■ William Gable, native of Kent, England, a baker, is charged on warrant, filed in this office, with deserting his wife, Emma Gable, in October last. Description: 28 years of age, sft. 2in., stout build, fresh complexion, fight hair, sandy whiskers, beard, and moustache, tweed suit. Offender left Lyttelton, for Wellington, per s.s. Wellington, on or about the 16tli October last, and is believed to be working at his trade, in or about Wellington.

Search and enquiry should be made for John Henry Wright, a sheep shearer, about 24 years of age, sft. llin., very small whiskers, and moustache of a light colour, double-breasted black, monkey jacket, dark billycock hat, with very wide brim, had in his possession a bag containing a striped coloured rug, bag marked John Wright inside, had with him a small dog, which had recently been clipped. He left Wellington, for Lyttelton, on the 25th ultimo, and a summons is filed in this office for service upon him, for deserting his wife and child, at Havelock, Hawke’s Bay, on the 21st ultimo.
