Stolen from the shop door of Gavin, Cashel street, Christchurch, at o AO. p m. 15th ultimo, a new blue cloth monkey jacket, lined with purple and check lining, .and stitched round the buttons Kichard Bowman, 55 years, sft. 7m., thin face, clea shaved, a well-known thief, is suspected.

Stolen from the Queen’s Hotel, Oamaru, between 11 p.m. 11th, and 8 a.m. 12th ultimo, an oil painting of a female bolding a bunch of grapes in one hand, and with loose flowing hair. The picture was cut out of its frame, which was 2ft. x 18in., in such a manner that it can be re-framed in a smaller one. Identifiable. Value £B. ; Alfred Hudson, blacksmith,-about 22 years, about sft. 7in., fair complexion, no whiskers or moustache, respectable looking, dressed in dark coat, grey trousers and vest, white shirt, black tie, soft white felt hat, is suspected. He left the following morning, supposed for Christchurch.

Stolen from the shop door of Barnabas Hale, Cashel street, Christchurch, between 5 and 6 p.m., 25th ultimo, one pair Wellington boots, since recovered, having been pawned by James Williams, supposed English, 35 years, sft. 5 or 6in , stout build, very little hair on face, front teeth out, dressed in black coat, dark trousers, black felt hat.

E. D. Gaeston, English, 17 years, sft. llin., slender build, dark complexion, no hair on face, foolish look, slovenly walk, stoops, dressed the blue uniform of a middy, is charged with deserting from the ship City of Dunedin, in Lyttelton harbour, on the 13th ultimo.

John Baneill, Erench, 35 years, sft. 4in., rather stout build, dark complexion, whiskers, beard, and moustache, grey eyes, has been a sailor, bust of female tattooed on right arm, is charged on warrant, filed in this office, with disobeying an order of the R.M. Court, Christchurch, for the support of his wife. Identical with offender page 66.

James C. Sadlee, English, 24 years, sft. 6in., medium build, fresh complexion, fair hair, dressed in dark clothing, is charged on warrant, issued by Melbourne Bench, with embezzling the moneys of Messrs. Power, Rutherford & Co., Collins street, Melbourne, in April last. Offender’s photograph is in the Detective Office, Christchurch.

Samuel Badham, English, 43 years, sft. 7in., pale complexion, dark hair, beard, whiskers, and moustache, blue eyes, a labourer, dressed in grey cloth coat and vest, light coloured plaid trousers, grey felt hat, carrying a carpet-bag, is charged on warrant, filed in this office, with deserting his wife, Ann Badham, in Christchurch, on the Ist ultimo.

John Claekson, English, 50 years, sft. 7in., black hair, nearly bald, pale complexion, stout build, black whiskers mixed with grey, shaved on chin, black eyes, scar on nose, a labourer, dressed in light coloured tweed coat and trousers, black double-breasted vest and straw hat, is charged on warrant, filed in this office, with deserting his w T ife, Mary Clarkson, at Christchurch, about the Ist June last.

Eevertino to notice in this Gazette, larceny of property from Queen’s Theatre, Dunedin, Mr. Olivers cornet was found by Greenwood, a nightman, on the morning of the 25th ultimo, in the right-of-way adjoining the Eed Lion Hotel, Stafford 'street, Dunedin, and it was soon afterwards claimed by a man who had been stopping at the hotel since the 20th ultimo. He left the hotel at 2 p.m. on the 25th ultimo, saying he was going to Port Chalmers, and taking the cornet with him. He had witli him a black leather portmanteau, the address on which had been apparently scratched cff. The Port Chalmers Eailway line label was on the portmanteau. Description English, 26 to 30 years, sft. 6 or 7in., slender build, fresh complexion, light-brown hair, whiskers and moustache, active looking, writes music, speaks French. When last seen wore dark tweed suit, round, hard black felt hat (sometimes wears a black belltopper); had on either Balmoral or elastic-side boots, with very ornamental toe-caps, and is supposed to have left Dunedin. He is believed to be identical with Charles James Donnelly, late teacher of the Eoman Catholic school at Cromwell, Otago, to which province he went four or five months ago, bringing with him a testimonial from a Mr. Maurice de Harvent Duval, a wool-broker, said to reside in Christchurch.
