Miscellaneous.

On the 19th ultimo, some person or persons maliciously tore down half-a-chain of paling fence, the private property of Mr. Alfred Simpson, Oxford Terrace, near Madras street bridge, Christchurch.

At 8 p.m. on the 14 ultimo, a stack of straw and 700 bushels of wheat in bags, the property of Messrs. Quinn, Bros., Makikihi, was set on fire. Suspicion attaches to William Voyce, blacksmith, English, about 27 years of age, sft. 10in., stout' build, fair complexion, and William Ashbolt, blacksmith, American, about 30 years of age, sft. 7in., medium build, sandy complexion, beard and moustache, cheeks clean shaved. Both parties are still at Makikihi. The property was uninsured.

On the 24th ultimo, a white swan, the property of Sir Cracroft Wilson, and which has been bred upon the river at Cashmere, was found dead, with its wings tied to a flax bush. It is supposed to have been done by some boys bathing in the river.
