Stolen or lost, en route from Melbourne to Christchurch, between the Bth and 11th ultimo, a nearly new plaid woollen shawl, large pattern, various colours. Hot Identifiable. The property of Kate Nolan, Madras street north.

Stolen from the shop of Henry Whittaker, North street, Timaru, between 4 and 7 p.m. on the 3rd instant, one £2O note, three £5 notes, and eight or ten £1 notes, Banks or numbers unknown. G-eorge Duncan, Scotch, 24 years, sft. sin., medium and square build, pale complexion, short light curly hair, reddish goatee, light moustache, very small fair .whiskers, blue eyes, speaks with a strong Scotch accent, a drapers’ assistant, still in Timaru, is suspected.

Stolen from the residence of the Hon. De Benzie Brett, Kirwee, near Courtenay, about the 10th ultimo, a gold backed pin, enamelled front, gold letters engraved upon it, crystal front over letters. The pin can be taken out, and it remains a scarf ring. Identifiable. Emma Roberts, widow, 45 years, oft. Sin , stout build, dark hair and complexion, who was in service at Col. Brett’s, is suspected.

Stolen from the Bailway Bridge, Opawa, near Christchurch, between the 12th and 18th ultimo, an American axe branded C.B. on the handle, and a quantity of firewood,

Strayed or stolen from Tattersalls, Christchurch, between 7 and 9 p.m. 30th ultimo, a dark brown gelding, hack, in poor condition, short tail, groggy on fore legs; identifiable. The horse was seized under distraint by the bailiff to the Resident Magistrate s Court, and placed in Tattersall’s; George Gallop, a groom there, was arrested on warrant for illegally rescuing the horse, but the case was dismissed by the Resident .Magistrate, Christchurch, for want of evidence, lhe horse is still missing. Between 8 p.m. 11th and G a.m. 12th instant, a mare, the property of William Hulm, Geraldine Mat, was maliciously wounded, being cut severely about the hock, and stabbed in the belly by some sharp instrument. Suspicion at present attaches to Mrs. Ilulm, who has gone to Timaru.— Description.—English, about 40 years, sft. 2in., stout build, fresh complexion, dark hair, well dressed, and respectable appearance.

Edward \ Makutowski, Irish, 30 years, oft. Sin, fair complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, ginger whiskers, beard and moustache, deeply pockmarked, smart active appearance, medium build, a sailor, usually dressed m blue serge, is charged on warrant, filed in this office, with deserting his wife, Mary Makutowski, at Christchurch, on the 22nd July, 1875. Offender is reported to have gone to Sydney as mate in mail steamer between Sydney and Singapore.

Henry Jordan, English, 32 years, sft. 9in., medium build, fair complexion, dark brown whiskers, beard, and moustache, dressed in striped Tweed suit, with flaps to vest pockets, has the appearance of. a jockey, late cab driver in Christchurch,, is charged on warrant, filed in this office, with deserting his wife, Sarah Jordan, at Christchurch, on the 2nd ultimo. He is reported to have gone to Dunedin via Timaru, and was accompanied by a prostitute named Dorothy Moloney, alias Dunedin Maggie, Irish, 22 years, stout and fat.

Neil McPhee, scotch, blacksmith, 33 years, 6ft. 2in., strong build, slight stoop, dark complexion, long face, grey eyes, very dark hair, dark whiskers, beard, and moustache, is charged on warrant with disobeying an order of the Resident Magistrate’s Court, Christchurch, for the support of his wife and family. Offender is believed to have gone to Temuka.

Reverting to Criminal Offence, dated Kaiapoi, 4th instant, larceny at Railway Boarding House, William Woods was arrested by the Kaiapoi police with the boots in his possession, brought before the Bench and the case dismissed.

Reverting to Police Gazette No. 20, 1875, page 146, offender John Lloyd has been arrested.

Reverting to Police Gazette No. 1, 1876, page 3, Valentine Shott, for disobeying an order of the R.M. Court, Christchurch, has been arrested.

Reverting to Police Gazette No. 2, 1875 page 10, offender Richard Oates Williams’ wife desertion therein referred to, is believed to be identical with the offender referred to in criminal offences, dated Christchurch 14th instant, for whom also a warrant is filed m this office. He is reported to be working on Cox’s, or Scott’s station, at Ashburton, and to have expressed his in-

tention of going to the Palmer diggings shortly.
