Stolen from Thomas . Dalton’s, Madras street north, between 5 p.m. 31st January last and 8 a.m. Ist instant, a small spirit level, about 13in. long, by |in. wide, value 15s. Identifiable.

Stolen from the residence of Mr. C. N. Mackie, Lavington Station, Ashburton District, between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. 26th ult., a silver hunting Geneva watch, large size, black hands, No. 43068, a £1 note of the Colonial Bank of New Zealand, and a’half sovereign. Watch only identifiable.

Stolen from the Alford Forest Hotel, during the afternoon of the 29th ultimo, one bottle Scotch whiskey, bottle since recovered. Valentine, alias Alfred Clarkson, a native of Auckland, 21 years, sft. 4in. or sin., medium build, very pale complexion, dark hair, ho beard, whiskers, or moustache, dressed in dark tweed sac coat, dark tweed trousers, cheese cutter cap, white spotted scarf round neck, a labourer, is suspected. A warrant will issue.

Stolen from the Police Depot, Christchurch, between the 15th and 25th ult., a night lamp, old pattern, No. 16 marked ,on hook behind, identifiable by number only, which was merely scratched and may .be rubbed out, the property of the Provincial Government, Canterbury.

Stolen from John Medans, South Town Belt, Christchurch, between 7.30 p.m. sth and 7 a.m. 6th inst., an oval zinc washing Vol, XIV, No. 4.

Stolen from the residence of Mary Anne Gilman, Ferry road, which was broken into during her absence between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. 7th instant, a silver Geneva hunting watch, steel chain attached, a silver brooch, crest, a boar’s head, motto, “ Quid Claris,” a meerchaum pipe (Fiji women lying down upon her elbows), broken amber mouthpiece. Identifiable.

Stolen from Messrs. Sutton, Taylor, & Co., Timaru, whose outhouse was broken into between 5 p.m. 7th and 9 a.m. Bth inst., one quilt, scarlet and blue check pattern, one pair of gentleman’s slippers, two pairs of stays, and several other articles, crape, elastic, &c. Quilt only identifiable. *’v

Stolen from the Golden Age.; Hotel, Christchurch, between 10 p.m. Bth and 1 p.m. 9th inst., a gold albert chain, with a fine link inside the outer ones, greenstone pendant, book-shaped with gold band round it, fastening it to the chain, also an Auckland quartz crystal pendant, not attached, value £lB, the property of Henry Allen, the landlord, and identifiable. Henry Fisher, a plasterer, 30 years, sft. 7in., dark hair, eyes, complexion, beard and whiskers, shows his teeth very much, dressed in darkish clothes, soiled with plaster, and Scotch cap, with peak, believed to have gone to Lyttelton, is suspected.

Stolen from the shop of Christopher Dearing, Colombo street, Christchurch, on the sth inst., by a man, name unknown, a quantity of pork sausages, which were taken from the offender’s pocket, who then broke away from Mr. Dearing and escaped. Description : —3O years, sft., fair complexion, fair hair, fair whiskers, beard, and moustache, heavy on chin, full red face, had the appearanoe of a hard drinker, wore light coloured coat.

Stolen from the person of James Taylor, at Pleasant Point, on the sth inst., £l2 in single notes, not identifiable. Robert Waugh, Scotch, sft. 9in., stout build, dark hair, whiskers, beard, and moustache, swarthy complexion, resident in Timaru, is suspected.

Stolen from John Nesbitt’s, Harper street, during the night of the 11th inst., one carcase of a sheep. Not identifiable.

illegitimate child, of which Anne Gregg is the mother. He is, supposed to have gone south. '

John Stevenson, carpenter and contractor, Scotch, 35 years, sft. lOin. slight build, light brown hair, bald on top of head, long light brown whiskers and moustache, blue eyes, dressed in grey tweed suit and light grey hat, elastic side boots, is charged on warrant, issued by Dunedin Bench and filed in Commissioner’s office, with deserting his wife, Isabella Stevenson, at Christchurch, on the 29th May, 1875. Offender at one time had a farm near Leithfield, in this Province. He at one time told his wife he thought of taking a farm at Taranaki.

George Bell Murray, Scotch, 45 years, sft. 9in. or lOin., fresh complexion, brown hair turning grey, and inclined to be curly, large dark grey eyes, large nose, shaves whiskers, wears moustache and goatee, sandy and turning grey, round shouldered, fourteen stone weight, rolling gait when walking, Scotch accent, dresses in double-breasted Paget coat with pockets, dark grey tweed vest and trousers, dark gray tweed coat, is charged on warrant, .filed in Commissioner’s office, with deserting his son, John Murray, on the 7th June, 1875, at Windmill road, Christchurch. Offender is believed to be in either Collingwood or Nelson, employed in the latter place at the gas works, or in the former at the iron works building chimneys.

Thomas Broadley native of Yorkshire, England, an engineer, 25 years, sft. Sin. or 9in., stout build, dark complexion, dark .brown hair, whiskers, beard, and moustache, light blue eyes, supposed to be dressed in blue paget coat, dark tweed trousers, elastic side boots, round hard black felt hat, very fond of drink, is charged on warrant, from Dunedin, with deserting his wife, Amelia Broadley, at Kaikorai, near Dunedin, on the 25th ultimo. He stated that he was going to work on a farm at Timaru, along with parties named Sims, who went along with him.

He is well known at Alford Forest, having worked there for some time; be is by trade a ship’s carpenter.

Eeverting to Criminal Offence, dated Detective Office, Christchurch, 2nd inst., Margaret Ellison, larceny, has been arrested by Detective Neill.

Eeverting to Police Gazette, No. 3, 1876, page 16, offender William Clark, alias William Clark Earl, is reported to have gone south by train from Waihi Crossing railway station on the evening of the Bth inst, supposed to be making for the Waitaki bridge.
