Deceased .has been a patient in the ‘ Asylum ; for the last 13 years. S. .Coward, Esq., J.P., Coroner,. upon the body of an infant female child. of Alice Mary and Thomas Peate, , aged 5 'days; s : A' post mortem examination made’ by Dr. Deamer went to show that deceased was suffocated by being 'overlaid,' and " the jury ! returned a verdict in accordance with the medical evidence. oi ;

An inquest '.was held?, in Lyttelton, ion ; 18th March, 1875, before J. W. S. Coward, Esq., J.P., Coroner, upon the body of Little Currie,- a native of Harrington, Cumberland, England, aged ,40, years, ; a., seaman- on . board the schooner Belle who, whilst discharging timber at .the, wharf, Jell; and , was picked up almost immediately and was found dead. The result of the post mortem examination showed' that' deceased had heart disease, !r the i jury gave the i verdict of—“ Died from natural causes.” do ono baa >!of!«ud

Coroner, on the body of Murdock McLeod; : aged v3O years, a seaman, who was found drowned;' i Deceased,? who "belonged ’ to' the schooner T. J. Ooleson, now lying in harbour, was ) last c seen >at n llip; m . r . r on the 15th inst., very, drunk. The body was discovered floating . about j two i miles from' the 1 vessel. The jury, after hearing the evidence, returned a verdict of—“ Found drowned.” I

An inquest H was held at r Christchurch, on Ist April, 1875, before J. W. 8. , Coward, Esq., J.P., Coroner, on the body of Edwarditton, aged 26, a labourer.- It appears that deceased,was: admitted into the Christ- 1 church Hospital on 31st March, 1875, and escaped whilst*delirious from typhoid J fever through a small window in*' the water closet.

Search being ‘ instantly made, deceased was at ; ’last l found ' by 1 George {'Starkiss' on J Ist inst., at 1 7.45 : a.m.; ; lying face' downwards in a pool of water in the Acclimatization Gardens. The" jury returned a verdict of—- “ Being delirious from typhoid fever, deceased fell into water and was drowned.” r 4 - .

An inquest was held at Waimate, on 29th March, 1875, before B. Woollcombe,-Esq., J.P., Coroner, upon the body of Sarah Hardy, aged 22 years, matron! Deceased had 1 been isi long ? time c suffering from pulmonary con!sumption, and (on 22nd j inst. her husband assaulted her by striking her -on the head and face, thereby causing congestion of the brain, which accelerated'her death. After the post mortem examination -made ! by Dr.’ Mclnty Provincial Surgeon, Timaru, the jury returned the following-verdict—“ That deceased died from consumption, • and that f her death was much accelerated by •'a- blow or 7 blows administered’ by her husband; 1 Thomas Syrett Hardy, and the jury return a verdict of manslaughter i against 1 the' said Thomas ’ Syrett Hardy. i

An inquest; was held at Drain | Road, Heathcote, on the 6th April, 1875, before J. W-.rS. Coward, Esq., J.P., Coroner, upon the i body ■off a male -infante child ,of ; Sarah Ann and Henry .. Klahn, ; aged 21 days. Dr. Doyle, who made a post mortem examination of ; the body, stated that death was caused by suffocation, being overlaid, and the jury returned a verdict accordingly.;,;,-
