Inquests.

An inquest was held at Akaroa, on the 14th January, 1875, before J. Aylmer, Esq.,. Conner, upon the body of Ernest Low, agedc 37 years, a surgeon, - who died of delirium r tremens that day. Dr. Jennings, of Akaroa, who attended deceased professionally, was examined, and the jury returned a verdict of —“ Death from delirium tremens, brought on by excessive drinking.”

An adjourned inquest was held at Lyttelton," on the 19th January, 1875, before J. W. S. Coward, Esq., Coroner, upon the body of Isabella Thompson, aged 12 years, who was found dead in an orchard, the property of Rev. F. Pember, with' her ’ throat' cut. "The jury returned <aj verdict of—“ Wilful ; murder ” . against. John Mercer, who has been committed for trial. .

An inquest was held at Sumner, on the 21st January, 1875, before J. W. . S ,y. Coward, Esq., Coroner, upon the • body of Hector Armour Bonn,' aged /26 years, who was drowned the preceding day ,by the capsizing of a boat. An inquest was held at Heathcote Valley, on the 29th January, 1875, before J. W. S. Coward, Esq , Coroner, upon the "body'. of Thomas Jewiss, aged 43 years/ whose death was the result, of being knocked down by a pile whilst he was charring some for,use on Lyttelton Wharf, on the 11th January. An inquest.was held at Sumner, on the' 30th January, 1875, before J. W. S. Coward, Esq, Coroner, upon the body of William : J. Terry, aged 27 years, who was : drowned K at the same time as Hector Armour Bonn above-mentioned.' The jury returned a similar verdict in'this case. /, / i:if

An inquest was ; held "at Waikuku, near Kaiapoi, on the Ist inst , before" Charles udley, Esq., ( oroner, upon' the 'body.' of Mary Topp, aged 80' years, who dropped ctac The preceding night. A postmortem examination revealed the fact that she died from rupture of the heart. Verdict—“ Died from natural causes.”ittOK i.ei V noowtod’

An inquest ; - was held at‘ Eangiora, on the 2nd inst., before Charles Dudley, Esq, Coroner, upon the body of Elizabeth Judson,

aged 35 .yea’s, a married woman, whose death resulted from her confinement.. The jury after hearing the evidence of Dr. Downes, that the deceased died in consequence of retention of the placenta, and •haemorrhage after childbirth, returned a verdict of—“ Died from natural causes.”

An inquest was held at Temuka, on the 4th inst., before B. Woolcombe, Esq., Coroner, upon the body of ’Rosa Brogden, aged 16 years, who was thrown out of a buggy on the 2nd inst. The jury after hearing the evidence returned a verdict —“Accidental death.”

An inquest was held at Christchurch Hos- ; pital, on the sth inst., before J. W S. Coward, Esq.. Coroner,: upon the body of John Ede, aged 38 years, who was injured by a fall of earth at the mouth of the tunnel, Heatheote Valley, on the 2nd inst. The jury after hearing the evidence returned a verdict of—“ Accidental- death.”

An inquest was held at Christchurch, on the ; Bth: inst., before J. W. S. Coward,' Esq., Coroner, upon the body of Jane Clark}' aged 44. years, who ; was found, dead upon the bedroom floor by her husband the preceding day. Dr. , Campbell, who made a post mortem: examination of the body, stated that deceased had been asthmatic for year's, and that the immediate cause of death'was effusion on the brain. The jury returned a verdict in accordance with the evidence.

An inquest: was held at Waltham, on the ) Ith inst, before J W. S. Coward, Esq., ; Coroner, upon the body of Priscilla. Morse, aged 40 years, who died suddenly the previous day. Dr. Campbell,-.who made a post mortem examination stated that death was caused by fatty degeneration of the heart. The jury returned a verdict in f accordance with the evidence.
