Inquests.
An inquest was held at Timaru, on the Bth July, 1874, before B. Woollcombe, Esq., Coroner, upon the body of Eliza Catterick, alias Shipley, aged 36 years, who. died on board the the s.s. Beautiful Star, in Timaru roadstead during the night of the 7th July. Verdict— 4 Died of an epileptic fit, caused by excessive drinking.”
An inquest was held at Timaru, on the 11th July, 1874, before B. Woollcombe, Esq., Coroner, upon the body of Elizabeth Lawry, aged 5 years, who was burned to death at Sandytown, on the 10th July.' The jury returned a verdict— That the deceased Elizabeth Lawry came by her death in consequence of injuries caused by accidental burning.”
An inquest was held at" Courtenay, '■ on the 14 July, 1874, before J. W. S. Coward, iEsq;, Coroner; upon the body >of 'John • Nielson, 1 aged 57, who was found dead in his room on the 12th July. An inquest was held at Akaroa, on ' the 18th July, 1874, before .‘ Justin Aylmer, Esq, Coroner, upon the body of John Kershaw, aged 51 years, whose death was caused by a tree falling upon him in Pigeon Bay bush, on the 16th , July.,. The , jury returned , a verdict of— 44 Accidental death.”;'
An.inquest was held at Christchurch, on the 22nd July, 1874, before, ’ G-. ,W. a 11,,, Esq.; Deputy-Coroner, on the Body of Henry Gillespie, aged 35 , years, an inmate of the Lunatic Asylum. Coward, Esq , Coroner, upon the body of William Wilson, aged 8 years, who was burned -to death in the fire which, destroyed his grandfather’s house at Seven-Mile-Peg, North Hoad, on the 19th July. y i The jury, upon 1 hearings the evidence; returned a } verdict of —“Accidental death.” > 03 Riga
An inquest • wss held : at Lyttelton, on; the 25th July, 1874, : 1 before J. •W. r.Sf Coward, Esq., Coroner, upon the body of George Green, who was drowned by the sinking of his dingy in the harbour, on the 22nd July. The jury returned a verdict Accidental death.” ;
An inquest was held at Ashburton, on the 4th August, 1874, before A. Saunders,-Esq., J.P., upon the body of John de Cain, aged 27 years, who died suddenly at the Middle Gravel Pit, between Ashburton and. the Rakaia, on the 24th July, 1874. The jury, after hearing the evidence, returned a verdict —“'Died from serous apoplexy.’ -
An inquest was held at Lyttelton, on the 30th July, 1874, before T. H. Potts, Esq., J.P., upon the body of Elizabeth Ann
Harris, an infant, found dead on-its mother’s arm upon her awaking the previous morning. The jury, upon hearing the evidence, returned a verdict of— Accidental death.”
An inquest was held at Christchurch, on the 30th July,- 1874, before G. W. Hall, Esq., J.P., Acting Coroner, upon the body of Thomas Percival, aged 36 years, who had been an inmate of the Lunatic Asylum since March, 1873. The .jury, after .hearing the medical evidence, returned a verdict of Died from disease of the heart.”
An inquest was held at Christchurch, on the Ist August, 1874, before J. W. S. Coward, Esq , Coroner, upon the body of Martin Sheehan, an infant, whose death was caused by his being overlaid by his mother Agnes Sheehan, at Tai Tapu, on the 31st 'July. The jury returned a verdict of “ Accidental death.” ' '
An inquest was held at Lyttelton, on the Bth instant, before J. W. S. Coward, Esq., Coroner, ; upon the body of Thomas - Biggs, aged 124 / years, an immigrant per ship Northampton , who, in climbing up a cliffi at Camp Bay the previous day, fell back and was instantly killed." The jury returned a verdict — “ Accidental death.”
