Inquests.

An inquest was held at Christchurch, on'the 16th March, 1874, before Gf. W. Hall, Esq., J.P., on the body of Ellen Finlay, aged 45 years; an inmate of the ..Lunatic ? Asylum. Dr;, Coward made a post mortem examination, and stated apoplexy to have been the cause ‘of death. Verdict accordingly.

An inquest was held at Akaroa, on the 20th March, 1874, before- Justin Aylmer, Esq., R.M., Coroner, on the body of Hippolyte !;Greudrot, aged 66 years. ; Verdict —“ Died from heart disease.” v V f| ii *s '

An inquest was held at Kaiapoi, on the 25th March, 1874, before - Charles r Dudley, Esq., Coroner, on the body of Jane Kerr, an infant, aged ten - weeks. • - Verdict — Died from natural causes.” *

An inquest was held at Christchurch, on the 29th March, 1874, before J. W. S. Coward, Esq., Coroner, upon the body of Mary Ann Coleman, aged 29 years, who died after her confinement. After hearing the evidence of . Dr.. Frankish, who ~attended- deceased, - the jury .returned ra verdict of— r Died , from natural causes.

An-inquest was held at Kaiapoi, on the 31st March, 1874, before Charles Dudley, r 'Esq., Coroner, 5 upon the body of /’William' John Rice, an inf ant/; aged' 4'• months. - ■ 1 Verdict—- “ Died from' concussion of ' the brain - but no evidence to show the cause of the same.” u ” v - :

An inquest was • held at Lyttelton, on the 3rd April, 1874, before ;J. W. ;S. Coward, Esq., Coroner, upon 1 the body of John Wills, aged 8 1 years, who was drowned when fishing off J the 1 rocks; at ' Ripa Island. ’ ' Verdict — “ Accidental death.” ‘- - '!

An inquest was held at Christchurch, on the 7th April, 1874, before J. W. S. Coward, Esq., Coroner, upon, the body of Charles Standing, aged 21 years, whose . body was found in the river Heathcote on the morning, of the sth instant. Verdict—“ Found drowned.” ’ '

An inquest,was. held at Rangiora, on the Bth April, 1874, before V Charles '. Dudley, Esq., Coroner, upon the body of Henry JNagel, aged 39, who died suddenly in his house on the 6th inst. Medical evidence showed that deceased died from - rupture of the aorta. Verdict accordingly.

An inquest was held at Christchurch, on the 10th April, 1874, before J. W. S. Coward, Esq., Coroner, -upon the body ; of Alice Gardiner, aged 2 years and 7 months, who ’was accidentally drowned in ’ the river Halswell on v -the preceding day. Verdict—“ Accidental drowning.”- .i'

An inquest was held at Christchurch, on the 2nd April, 1874,v before J. W. S. Coward, Esq., Coroner,g on the body ofMatthew -Henry Grimblett, aged 2 years and’ 9 months, whose death was caused by falling into a well the previous day. Verdict—“ Accidental death ”

An inquest was held at Leeston, on the 4th April, 1874, before W. B. Christie, Esq., Coroner, on the body of Agnes Kerr, aged 2 years, who died of diarrhoea' on the Ist instant. \ Verdict' “ Died from 1 natural causes.” | “i % I H

An inquest was held at Christchurch, on the 11th April, 1874, before J. W. S. Coward. Esq., Coroner, upon the body .of Patrick McEellie, a seaman, aged 80 years, who was crushed by a bale of wool falling upon him and- breaking his spine whilst stowing- a vessel in Lyttelton Harbour. Deceased died in Christchurch Hospital, and the jury returned a verdict of— “ Accidental death.” .

Reverting to Criminal Offence, dated Timaru, 31st March, 1874, offender Smith-has-been arrested by Mounted-Constable Kennedy, Arowhenua Police.

Reverting to 'Police Gazette No. 7, 1874, page 46 Rasmus Jongusen has been arrested by Constable Davis, Christchurch Police., and King’s watch found upon him.
