Inquests.

An Inquest was held on the 10th inst., at Christchurch, before J. W. S. Coward, Esq., Coroner, upon the body of William Bowis, aged 50, a farmer, living at Templeton, who was killed by being run over by the 7.30 p.m. train from the Rakaia to Christchurch, on the Bth inst., at that portion of the line known as the Yankee Crossing. The jury, after hearing the evidence, returned a verdict of accidental death.

An Inquest was held at Arowhenua, on the the Bth inst., before B. Woollcombe, Esq., Coroner, on the body of Charlotte Scott, aged 19 months, who was drowned in the Waihi River on the sth inst. Erom the evidence it appeared the child was playing on the day in question between her father’s house and the river, which runs about 100 yards in front of the house, and was crossed by a spar of timber used as a bridge. The body was found lodged against the roots of a fallen tree in the river about 50 yards below the spar. Verdict—“ That Charlotte Scott was found drowned in the Waihi River, and that there were no marks of violence on the body.”

An Inquest was held at Timaru, on the 9th inst., before B. Wbollcombe, Esq., Coroner, upon the body of Joseph John Griffith Rowley, aged 9 years, who died in consequence of injuries inflicted on his head by a lad named William Nelson, with whom deceased had been playing, who struck him on the head with a stone. The jury returned a verdict of manslaughter against William Nelson.

An Inquest was held at Doyleston, on the 15th inst., before W. B. Christie, Esq., Coroner, on the body of Mary McCausland, an infant, aged 7 days. Erom the evidence it . appeared that deceased was one of twins, and had never been strong. The jury returned a verdict of death from natural causes.
