Stolen, from the garden of Mr. Richard Witkam, at Southbridge, between the 25th June and Ist July, five peach trees, two of which were grafted, about 2ft. 6in. high • one pear tree sft. or 6ft. high; one apple tree, 51t. or 6ft. high.

Stolen, from the store of Mr. Julius Mendelson, Temuka, between 10 p.m., 20th, and 7 a.m., 21st July, 1872, a silver lever watch, double case, capped and jewelled, No. 32984, maker Webster, London; steel Albert guard attached, round link pattern ; a japanned cash box, 14 by 8, containing papers and receipts, all of which bear the signature of J. Mendelson; a No. 2 size meerschaum pipe, straight stem with case, 4/0 marked on inside of bowl; £2 4s. sd, in cash, consisting of one £1 note, Bank of New Zealand, number unknown, half-a-sovereign, and the remainder in silver. Mr. Mendelson’s store was broken into, and the safe containing the above property was rolled into the gully, about 200 yards from the store, broken open and rifled of its contents.

Stolen, from the shop of Mr. Bowker, Timaru, at 8 p.m., 20th July, 1872, by a man about oft. 6m. with light whiskers, wearing a brown coat, and dark trousers, a pair of half Wellington boots, brass pegged, size 7, private mark on sole “ e 4,” value 155., identifiable by private mark only.

Stolen, a bay gelding, branded on near shoulder, the property of Mr. Thomas Sear who last saw the horse at the Harewood Inn, on Saturday the 6th July.

A lad who was in Mr. Wright’s some time previous is suspected.

Stolen, from Shadrach Clements, a doublebarrelled gun. The gun has since been recovered by the Police in the possession of a boy named Dickinson, who states that he bought it on the Papanui Hoad from an Irishman, about 30 years of age, sft. 10in., thin build, black hair, whiskers, and moustache ; had on a light coat, and carried a blue swag. Supposed to be making his way North.
