Stolen.

Stolen, on the 2nd ultimo, between 6 p.m. and 12 midnight, from the person of Henry Ferris, while in a drunken sleep at the Clifton Boarding House, Christchurch, an open-faced f-plateGoldLever Watch, white enamelled dial; maker’s name —Stoddart, New Zealand and London; No. 8160. Identifiable. Harry Tandy, and William Crawley, alias “ Cockney Bill,” two well-known thieves, who where in Ferris’s company on the evening in question, are suspected. Description—Tandy: aged 30, 6 feet high, stout build, red pock-pitted face, light hair, small whiskers and beard ; dressed in brown tweed suit, and black felt hat. Crawley: aged 26, 6 feet high, stout build, dark hair, black whiskers and moustache ; dressed in monkey jacket, cord trousers, and black felt hat. Still in Christchurch.

About 5 a.m., on the 24th ultimo, Collins’ Hotel, Hereford Street, Christchurch, James Collins, proprietor, was broken into, and an entrance effected into the sitting and bedrooms, and two dressing cases containing one sovereign, one half-sovereign, two halfcrowns, and four or five shillings stolen. The cases were found the same morning in Cranmer Square, one of them having been burst open, and the money, which is not identifiable, taken. Walter Johnson, a

well-known thief, at present in Christchurch, is suspected. Description—age 52, height sft. Bfin., stout build, sallow complexion, light brown hair, whiskers and beard of the same color, worn round chin and somewhat thin, upper lip shaven, squints, qnd half closes left eye ; supercilious grin on face when speaking; dressed in dark tweed suit, black billycock hat, and white muffler.
