Stolen.
Stolen, from the person of William McDonald, at Lodge’s Dining-rooms, between the 2nd and sth ultimo, seven pounds, in bank notes, numbers and banks not known. Timothy Gleeson suspected ; he is an Irishman, 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, medium build, dark complexion, dark hair, cheeks shaved, black beard and moustache, worn American fashion ; dressed in dark trousers, blue shirt, dark tweed coat and a dirty white wide-awake hat; formerly a member of the Canterbury Constabulary.
George Osborn and Frank Mountain are suspected of stealing numbers 1 and 2 on this month’s list of horses, &c., stolen. Osborn is about 40 years of age, 6 feet 1 or 2 inches high, stout clumsy build, fresh complexion, round features, fair hair, small fair whiskers, a little hair on chin, clumsy awkward gait; a horse dealer. Mountain is about 40 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, clean face, very much wrinkled, has the appearance of a low jockey or horse dealer. Both these men drove a mob of horses from Christchurch to Hokitika. On the morning alter their departure the horses were missed.
Stolen, from William Walker, London street, Lyttelton, a pair of sea boots, made wide to go over
trousers, and to reach nearly to the knee ; no nails in soles but three rows of wooden pegs, some_figures, not known, in ink on the soles.
Stolen, from a bag on board the p. s. Comerang, about three weeks ago, during the passage from Lyttelton to Christchurch, the property of Edward Sofley, a gold Albert chain, engraved curb pattern, with appendages consisting of a twisted bar with nobs at each end, a twisted wire watch key, a piece of green stone about an inch long, and a gold split ring, a pair of blue cloth military trousers torn at the forks, a white military flannel shirt, marked with three figures in red ink. Samuel Rainford, who was on board the steamer when the articles were stolen, is suspected; he is described as about 18 years old, no further description given; supposed to be employed at the Police Barracks, Dunedin.
Stolen, from a stable at the Ohoko Road, near Kaiapoi, on the night of the 16th ult., the property of Samuel Bradley, a large horse collar, newly lined with check, stuffing fuller on the near side than the other ; one pair of wooden hames, iron plated, where the staples go through broken off.
