Stolen, at 8 p.m. on the 2nd ult., from the person of John McDonald, miner, ITau-hau, while in a crowd of people collected on Gibson Quay, Hokitika, an open-faced silver lever watch; maker, Robinson, Liverpool, No. 597. Identifiable.

Stolen, about 6 p.m. on the 2nd ult. from a boat moored at the foot of Beach-street, Hokitika, and during the absence of the owner, two pair of new water-tight boots, double soles, No. 9 size; two pair of boys Wellington boots, Nos. 4 and 5 size, and one pair of second-hand watertight boots, No. 9 size, (old boots identifiable;) the property of William Cochlan, South Spit, Hokitika.

Stolen, between 12 noon, and 1 p.m. on the sth ult., from the Library Society’s Reading Room, Hokitika, a £1 note, the property of the members of the above Society. It is supposed that the second volume of Chemistry of Common Life, by John Hill Burton, L.L.D. was stolen at the same time. Several of the leaves are stamped with the Society’s seal, and there is No. 14 in ink on the inside of the cover, by which it can be identified.

Stolen, between 7 and 11 a.m. on the 16th ultimo, from a hut at Tucker Elat, during the absence of the owner, Peter Keller, one pair of moleskin trousers, five £1 notes on. Bank of New Zealand, Nos. unknown; one sovereign and one shilling tied up in a chamois leather bag. A man named John Cocker, who lives near Keller’s hut, is suspected. He is an Englishman, about 50 years old, 5 feet 5 inches high, stout build, fair complexion, grey hair, no beard, whiskers, or moustache ; blind of left eye ; has been a convict. Still at Tucker Elat.

Stolen, between 12.30 a.m and 6 p.m of the 9th ult.. from the kitchen of the Melbourne Hotel, Greymouth, 30 lbs. of bacon, the property of James Johnston. A man named James Collins, who was seen about the premises at 4 a.m. the same morning, is suspected. He is 35 years old, 5 feet 6 inches high, slight build, dark complexion, dark hair, clean shaved with the exception of a little beard under the chin ; dissipated appearance ; by calling a cook ; dressed in dark clothes and dark cloth cap. Still in Greymouth.

Stolen, between the 12th and 19th ult., from off* a horse that broke away, a hogskin riding saddle nearly new, with a brass plate under each flap, with the maker’s name (not known), and the word “Bath ” engraved thereon, and a snaffle bridle with white head band; both identifiable, the property of John W\ Shackleton, Town Belt east, Christchurch.

Stolen, between 4 p.m. on the 21st and 1 p.m. 22nd ult. from a bedroom in the Royal Hotel, Greymouth, the sum of £SO or £55 sterling, consisting of one £2O note, one £lO note, and four or five £5 notes; all on Bank of New Zealand ; numbers not known ; the property of Thomas Peard, miner, South Creek.

Stolen, between the evening of the 21st, and morning of the 23rd ult., from Sawyer’s Creek, near Greymouth, a new calico tent, 6 by 8, with fly to match, and an old fire-place fly, having the name J. A. Rae marked on it. The tent had a greater number of peg holes for fastening than is usual, and the strings to fasten the entrance were of flax. Supposed to have been taken by some person returning

from the Buller to Hokitika, or some of the diggings south of Greymouth.

Stolen, between 2 p.m. on the 22nd and 10 a.m. on the 23rd ult., from the bar of Brown’s Bridge Hotel, an open faced silver lever watch, white dial, the minute hand broken, works out of repair; No. and maker’s name unknown. The property of William Hood.

Stolen, between 7 and 11 p.m. of the 16th ult., from the verandah of the Crown Hotel, Montreal-street, a ladder about 11 feet long, nearly new, made of white pine, tops and bottom steps fastened with hoop iron, not painted.
