List of Appointments, &c., since the publication of the last list: — REDUCTIONS. Third-class Sergeant Rd. McCormack, to be first-class Constable.

A warrant has been issued by the Hokitika Bench for the apprehension of one John Bay alias J. C. Bay alias H. C. Bay, charged with embezzlement of goods, the property of John Harris Horne, Chesterfield. He is a Norwegian, about 32 years old, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, stout build, light brown hair and whiskers ; the, latter he has shaved off, leaving a tuft on chin ; he may have a moustache ; sharp light grey eyes, freckled face. Has been packing between Hokitika and Chesterfield; gone overland to Mokihinui.

A warrant has been issued by the Melbourne Bench for the apprehension of one William P. Potter, charged with embezzlement. He is 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, stout build, complexion pale and sallow ; hair dark brown ; moustache and imperial dark brown, no whiskers or beard, eyes light blue, visage long, swaggering gait, good address easy manner; kept the Curzon Hotel, Hotham ; ivas treasurer of the Loyal Melbourne Lodge 1.0.0. F., and has absconded (to New Zealand it is supposed) with £BO of the moneys belonging to that Lodge.

A warrant has been issued by the Ross Bench for the apprehension of one Peter Summers, charged with obtaining goods by false pretences from John McGaffin, storekeeper, Ross. He is a German, about 28 years old, 5 feet 8 inches high, stout build, sandy whiskers, shaved American fashion, and dressed in diggers costume; supposed to have gone in the direction of Hokitika.

A Warrant has been issued by the Greymouth Bench for the apprehension of one Thomas Davidson, charged with non-payment of a penalty inflicted at the Resident Magistrate’s Court, Greymouth. He is an Englishman, 35 years old, 5 feet 11 inches or 6 feet high, stout build, round full features, clean shaved, long and very fair hair ; dressed in blue serge jumper, moleskin trousers, and brown felt hat; a sawyer.

During the night of the 4th ultimo an entrance was effected into the shop of Clark & Co., 51, Elizabethstreet, Melbourne, by opening the door of the Alliance Insurance Office with false keys, and breaking through the wall separating Clark’s shop from that office, and the following goods slolen: — Black glacis, 8 to 10 pieces, some black edged, and some coloured. Ducapes, 2 pieces, violet and white edge. Black gras, grains, 3 or 4 pieces, 24 inches wide, black edges (85 to 100 yards in each of above). Black glacis, 6 to 8 pieces, 70 to 80 yards each.

pea, 2 gold pins with Freemasons emblems, one a gold trowel, the other a gold trowel with cornelian handle; 2 gold brooches, each set with pearls, one with ruby at foot; 1 oblong shaped gold locket, hung on a swivel; 1 gold mourning pin, set round the outside with small pearls, one or two of them missing ; 1 gold ring set with blood stone, open at the back ; 1 gold diamond pin. 2 or 3 boxes, each containing two or three Spanish lace shawls, each shawl value £3 or £4. Jewellery identifiable: the remainder doubtful. Those articles are supposed to have been shipped to Canterbury.
