Stolen, between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. of the 16th ult. from the shop door of John Casgrave, draper, Bevellstreet, Hokitika, a piece of calico, about 25 yards in length, double width. Suspicion is attached to a woman named Mary Ward, an Englishwoman, 29 years old, 5 feet 1 inch high, slight build; brown hair; thin features. Still in Hokitika.

Stolen, between 7 and 8 p.m. on the 22nd ult. from the person of John Barrass, miner, Eoss, while in a state of intoxication, the sum of ten pounds, in £1 notes. A man named Charles Madden, who was in company with Barrass during the day, is suspected of having stolen the money. Stolen, about 5 p.m. on the 27th ult. from a dwelling in Revell-street, Hokitika, an old morocco purse, containing a likeness ot the Prince and Princess of Wales, one £5 note, bank and No. unknown, and two rings, one a gentleman’s colonial gold ring with red stones set in it, the other an English gold ring with two red and two blue stones set in it: the pioperty ot one Maria Eliza Smith. A woman named Mary Quinlan, who occupied the same bedroom, is suspected: she is an Irishwoman, 23 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high; dark hair; good-looking; always dresses very respectable. Still in Hokitika.

Stolen, between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. from a bedroom in the Charles Napier Hotel, Hokitika, a black morocco leather purse, containgng one £5 note, bank and number unknown, four shillings in silver, and a cheque, drawn by W. Rolleston in favour of B. L. on the Union Bank of Australia, Hokitika, for £3, dated 24th September, 1867 : the property of Henry Linsten. A man named Thomas Mahon, who had been sitting some time in the adjoining room is suspected : he is an Irishman, 32 or 33 years old, 5 feet 7 inches high, stout build ; swarthy complexion, brown hair, light brown beard, whiskers, and moustache ; full face ; dressed in moleskin trousers, and Crimean shirt; had a blue blanket swag. Has been searched by the Police, but none of the missing property found upon him. Left Hokitika on the 30th ult. overland for Christchurch.

Stolen, during the night of the 30th ult. from the premises of Edward Watson, Tuam-street, Christchurch, one leg of mutton, one large-sized washingtub with one of the handies broken, and one smailsized American tub with a broad iron hoop recently put on in a rough manner. Tubs identifiable.

Stolen, about 7.30 p.m. on the first inst. from off the footpath in front of Dr. Turnbull’s residence, Madras-street, Christchurch, an ornamental eight day clock, set in a square marble stand, with four gilt supports on the bottom, the one on the left front corner broken off; has a marble ornament on top in shape of a champagne glass, with a small piece broken off the side : the property of James Malloy, Durham-street, Christchurch. The clock had just been purchased by Mr. Malloy at a sale of furniture, and placed on the path, and during Malloy’s absence for a short time it was stolen.

Stolen, sometime during the 3rd inst. from the bar of the Carlton Hotel, Christchurch, an oil painting, about 12 inches long and 8 inches wide, representing an aged man and woman, the man holding a glass tumbler in his hand. Identifiable.

Stolen, sometime between the Ist and 3rd inst. from the garden at the residence of Mr. John Anderson, Cashel-street, Christchurch, a piece of white indiarubber hose, one inch size, with brass screw ferrule at one end. Identifiable.
