Stolen, between 10 o’clock a.m. and 6 p.m. on the 15th inst, from a room in the Imperial Hotel, Boss, a white lace shawl, almost new, value about £3; the property of Mrs. Holland. A woman named Mary Cantwell, an Irishwoman, about 27 years old, 5 feet 6 inches high, medium build, fresh complexion, dark hair, grey eyes, and probably dressed in dark striped dress : is suspected of being the offender, she having been for some weeks employed as servant at the hotel, and left the day the shawl was missed. She may be heard of at the Diggers Arms Hotel, Hokitika.

Stolen, between 6 p.m. of the 15th, and 8 a.m. of the . 16th ult., from a stye, in a paddock at the Christchurlich Orphan Asylum, a black pig, middle

gold wedding rings, two of them broken ; one small jet brooch; one small gold brooch, representing a butterfly, set with turquoise, one turquoise out of one of the wings ; one daguerrotype portrait of a lady m deep mourning, in small metal frame; the centre portion of a common brooch, with a gentleman’s likeness ; a piece of brown hair tied iqmn the form of a true lover’s knot, wrapped in a piece of blotting paper with red ink upon it; one silver brooch with amethyst in centre ; one red coral necklace, six or seven rows, with plain gold snap; a quantity of letters, some signed H. C. All valued about £SO, and identifiable except the money.

Stolen, between the hours of 10 a.m. and 12 noon, from the residence of John Davidson, Beach street, Hokitika, two silver watches : Ist an open-faced lever watch with gold hinges and cream-coloured dial, maker’s name supposed to be James Davis, value £7 ; 2nd, a silver lever hunting watch, no glass, No. 46010, maker’s name Beaver, London: both identifiable. No person in particular suspected.

Stolen, about 12 noon of the 26th ult., from a tent at Eiccarton, during the absence of the owner, William Boss, two single blue blankets, nearly new, one tin billy, a little burned in the mouth, one tin pannikin, and one small flower-bag: all identifiable. A man named John Jenkins is suspected, he having been seen coming from the tent with a bag ; he is about 35 years old, 5 feet 5 inches high, stout build ; brown hair, whiskers and moustache; dressed in moleskin trousers, monkey jacket, dark coloured wide awake hat, and old, dirty, light-coloured cravat.
