Embezzlement.

A warrant has been issued by the Dunedin Bench for the arrest of Peter H. Smith, late a clerk in the employ of Messrs. Dalrymple and Co., Princessstreet, Dunedin, charged with embezzling various sums of money received by him for and on account of his employers. Smith is about 27 years old, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, ruddy complexion as if from drink, brown hair, whiskers, and moustache ; has lost two or three front teeth from upper jaw; a Scotchman; dressed in blue sacque coat, dark trousers, and light felt hat. Supposed to have left Dunedin per steam ship “ Omeo ” for Auckland, on the 23rd March, 1864.

George Danby is charged on warrant issued by the Invercargill Bench, with embezzling various sums of money, by means of a valueless cheque, from Ralph Shaw, Kelvin-street, on the 17th instant. There are other similar charges against him. The offender is aged 20 or 22, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, slight build, fair complexion, incipient beard, and no moustache; wore a dark coat of ribbed cloth, bound with braid, vest and trousers of dark drab mixture, and black cloth French cap; of good address and has a slight knowledge of the piano and accordein. Represents himself as the son of a squatter in Otago. Believed to be English.
