Extract from Otago Police Gazette,
3rd August, 1863 ; page 80.
Amended Description of the missing mare, the property of the late Joseph Smith, alias “ Yorkey,” who was murdered at Miller’s Flat, on the 23rd or 24th March last.
The brand is illegible, but there is a straight mark from a cut on the near shoulder, about three or four inches long; also, three white marks under saddle on off side, one of them 12 inches long, and the other two about 8 inches each in length, caused by the mare, when young, having been cut; the hair has grown white on the places. The injury to the eye only observable on close inspection.
