He niupepa ā-wiki a Matuhi (i mōhiotia hoki ko te Wairarapa Matuhi Press) i tīmata tōna putanga i Māhitāone i te 2 Hepetema 1903.

Tētahi o ngā pou o te niupepa ko Taiāwhio Te Tau, koia hoki tētahi o ngā kaihautū o te Church of the Seven Rules of Jehovah me te Kaunihera Māori o Rongokako. I kōrero nuitia ngā mahi o te Hāhi me te Kaunihera o Rongokako i roto i te Matuhi, ahakoa i reira hoki ngā rongo kōrero o te takiwā, o te motu, o te ao anō hoki.

I noho te wāhine a Taiāwhio , a Pani, hei etita mō Matuhi taea noatia te tīmatanga mai a Wainohu Te Huki i taua tūranga i te marama o Hūrae 1905.

Ka pokea te niupepa e ngā raruraru moni, ā, ka ngoikore haere a Matuhi, me te rere o tōna putanga whakamutunga i te 16 Āperira 1906.

I takea mai ēnei kōrero i S Chrisp, ‘The Tribal Society of the Wairarapa Newspapers’ i roto i Rere Atu, Taku Manu! he mea ētita J Curnow, N Hopa me J McRae (Auckland: Auckland University Press, 2002), (wh. 193–210).

Matuhi (or the Wairarapa Matuhi Press) was a weekly Māori-language newspaper which began publication in Masterton on 2 September 1903.

Taiāwhio Te Tau, a prominent figure in the Church of the Seven Rules of Jehovah and the Rongokako Māori Council, was closely involved with the newspaper. The activities of both the Church and the Rongokako Council were given extensive coverage in Matuhi, although local, national and international news were also covered.

Matuhi was edited by Taiāwhio’s wife, Pani, until Wainohu Te Huki took over the role in July 1905.

Financial difficulties resulted in the demise of Matuhi, with the last issue appearing on 16 April 1906.
