FRANKTON STATION

REPAIRS TO PLATFORM WORK LIKELY TO START SOON The improvements contemplated at the Frankton railway station are expected to be carried out in the near future. The platform on the western side of the station will be repaired and concrete blocks will provide a firm edge, replacing the present uneven surface. Work is expected to begin within the next week or two, said Mr C. H. Hawk, resident engineer, Hamilton, stating today that the gang which would be carrying out the wor£_was at present engaged in completing a task at Huntly. Members of the travelling public have expressed the hope that the repainting of the Frankton station would be carried out before the busy Christmas holiday period. However, there is no possibility of this eventuating. It is stated that the work will not be started until next year, following the completion of the work on the platform. The state of several level crossings in Hamilton has given rise to some concern among motorists and improvements have been urged for some time. The crossing in Grey Street, Claudelands, was very uneven and motorists were compelled to avoid the bumpy surface in the centre of the road and make a diversion to either side. However, a gang of men was engaged last week in relaying the crossing. For several days trains observed a speed restriction while proceeding over the crossing.
