TRIBUTE TO NOVELIST
WORKS OF G. B. LANCASTER Graceful tribute to the life and work of G. B. Lancaster (Edith Joan Lyttelton), the New Zealand novelist who died some months ago, is paid by Mr F. A. de la Mare, of Hamilton, in a brochure which has attracted attention in literary circles through New Zealand. Close personal friendship and the exchange of correspondence have placed the writer of the brochure in an exceptionally favourable position to give a true evaluation of the novelist; her character and her influence upon New Zealand letters. Mr de la Mare selects “ Pageant ” as G. B. Lancaster’s and New Zealand’s greatest novel. Apart from its literary merit and the light it throws upon a writer who is more favourably known abroad even than in New Zealand, the brochure has attracted attention because of its format and printing. It was printed by the Waikato Times.
