FOOD FOR EUROPE

SUPPLIES FROM AMERICA LAST QUARTER OF 1945 WASHINGTON, Nov. 9 In the last three months of 1945 food from the United States for the liberated countries of Europe and French North Africa will be 4,500,000 tons. The volume of exports is limited by the dollar resources of the European Governments ami Unrra. the two principal sources of payment. The Soviet will not receive anything in the fourth quarter. Mr Anderson, Secretary of Agriculture. said the total was expected to meet only the most urgent minimum needs in a Eurpoe suffering from hunger and privation over a period of years. It is hoped the same level can be maintained in the first quarter of 1946. while continuing to have ample supplies within the United States. Substantial amounts of food are going to Europe from Canada, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and the Caribbean area, and surpluses of some foods from Norway, Sweden and Denmark. Mr Anderson assured American civilians that they would have more of most foods in the last quarter than in any comparable period during or before the war. Meat rationing will end in December, but sugar will be subject tc control throughout 1946.
