EARL JELLICOE
TO BE SOCIALIST PEER LONDON, Nov. 9 Earl Jellicoe, only son of the former Governor-General of New Zealand Admiral of the Fleet Eail Jellicoe, who died in 1935, has become a Socialist and intends to sit in the House of Lords as a Labour peer, reports the Daily Herald. When asked his reasons, Lord Jellicoe replied: “I have faced up to facts. I have seen Europe and now I know. When I joined up five years ago I had not taken much interest in politics. After all, I was young. I ; may not be able to attend the House | of Lords often, for I have my living ! to make.” Now 26 and a colonel, Lord Jellicoe ' was in the Coldstream Guards until he became a commando officer. He ! won the M.C. and D.S.O. He led the parachutists who captured the 1 Araxos airfield in Peloponnese, and ; who three weeks later were the first force to enter Athens. He is applyI ing for membership of the Fabian ! Society and will probably join the local branch of the Labour Party at Ascot.
