CONVERSION OF CAR

CHILDREN’S COURT CASE The conversion of a motor-car was admitted by two farmhands, aged 16 and 17, before Mr S. L. Paterson, ‘-w S.M., in the Children’s Court, Hamilton, yesterday. The elder boy also admitted the theft of £2 16s from his employer’s farm. Senior-Detective W. R. Murray said that the elder boy had been unhappy in his work and as a result had decided to leave, the other boy going with him. They took a car from the farm where they were employed and drove as far as Mercer, where the car apparently broke down. The younger boy became repentant and returned to his employer but the other travelled to Hamilton, where he was arrested. Full restitution had been made. The magistrate in admonishing and discharging the younger boy said he had seen the error of his ways. The elder boy was placed under the supervision of the child welfare officer for one year, the magistrate directing that he should be given a chance in other employment. He was not suited to the farming environment.
