LEFT PRIESTHOOD
FORMER CHAMPION ATHLETE SYDNEY, Aug. 17. The former champion athlete James R. (Jimmy) Carlton has left the Roman Catholic priesthood and has married. Carlton, the holder of Australian sprinting records, gave up athletics in 1932 at the top of his career to train for the priesthood. He spent seven years in training and became a priest in 1939. .Last April he married in the Church of England. Carlton still holds the Australian 100 yards record of 9 3-5 sec.
