The bank of New Zealand is to be taken over by the State, says the Government. The power of lending money, of making advances to the bank’s customers would then become the function of the State. Can we be sure that those advances will be made impartially and on a basis of sound security as they are today by the private banks ? Industry, commerce, the whole economic structure depends on this. For politically biased or uncertain banking policy could strangle any business at will, prevent new enterprises starting, foster uneconomic ventures. That is the issue fair, sound and impartial finance ... or a policy dictated at the whim of a Government pledged to socialism! If you have any doubts about a measure which has never been placed before the people, write your Member of Parliament today and protest against the taking over of the Bank of New Zealand.
