LARGE INCREASE IN MAY TOTAL VALUE £3,022,940 Land transfers registered in May number 3088, with a total value of £3,022,940, an increase of 931 in number and £672,612 in value compared with April, according to the June Abstract of Statistics. Transactions in May were also considerably above those of the corresponding month last year, the difference amounting to 266 and £528,594 respectively. In the five months ended May of this year, 12,627 land transfers were registered, the total value amounting to £12,274,548. This compares with 10,116 and £10,285,777 respectively for a similar period of 1944. As in the case of land transfers, mortgage registrations were on a comparatively heavy scale in May, a total of 1977 transactions being registered, With an aggregate value of £1,709,372. These figures show respective increases of 608 and £454,006 compared with April, and increases of 283 and £380,440 over the corresponding month of last year. In the first five months this year 8091 mortgages were registered for a total value of £6,763,095, while 9945 mortgages, representing £7,772,017, were discharged. In a similar period of 1944 mortgage registrations numbered 6365 and discharges 8924, the respective values amounting to £5,045,345 and £6,802,937.
