CLAIM FOR DAMAGES
ADJOURNMENT GRANTED There was only a brief sitting of the Supreme Court in Hamilton this morning. A case listed was one where £2OO damages was claimed by a prisoner at Rangipo in the King Country from a prison officer, alleging wrongful sentence imposed. Dr. A. M. Finlay (Auckland) appearing for plaintiff, «informed Mr Justice Johnston that owing to an oversight the requisite order for production of the prisoner had not been sealed, and therefore he could not be produced. The only course was to ask for an adjournment and in view of the fact that counsel for the defendant, Mr V. R. Meredith (Auckland) could not attend this week the adjournment might mean a transfer of the hearing to Auckland. His Honour granted the adjournment, and said the place of hearing could be decided later.
