KARAPIRO LAKE
PROPOSED NATIONAL PARK Mr G. W. Hutchinson, secretary of the Automobile Association (Auckland) wrote to the Matamata County Council yesterday regarding the proposed national reserve at the Karapiro Lake, which will be . formed when the hydro-electric | works are functioning. He asked i to be advised of the progress of representations to the authorities. “It is understood that within about 12 months this lake will be formed, and if undue delay takes place in giving statutory status to the proposed domain the whole proposal may be defeated by transactions in i property by private owners,” he I wrote. “My association appreciates that a more definite knowledge of I the lake contour is necessary before j the land that will become available as a public domain can be delineated on a plan, but nevertheless it is. anxious to know that preparations are so far advanced that the scheme can be brought to fruition very shortly after the lake is formed.”
Mr M. E. Fitzgerald said the Regional Planning Council was interested in a suggestion that the whole of the Waikato River upstream from Cambridge should be incorporated in a recreational scheme for eventual development.
