ANOTHER VACANCY

BOROUGH COUNCIL MR W. W. DILLICAR RESIGNS There are now two vacancies on the Hamilton Borough Council. In addition to the vacancy caused by the recent death of Mr James Trejoar, Mr W. W. Dillicar has tendered his resignation owing to continued indifferent health. The council meets tonight, when it is possible that steps will be taken to appoint a successor to both the late Mr Treloar and to Mr Dillicar Past practice would indicate that the positions will be offered to the two candidates highest on the list of unsuccessful candidates at the last municipal elections. These are Messrs. R. McCaw and A. M. Bisley. Mr Dillicar has long been associated with Hamilton and has actively identified himself wifri many moves for the betterment of conditions in the borough. Apart from his work as a councillor, he has been a staunch advocate of the scheme for providing a Maori hostel at Frankton, and it was largely due to his enthusiasm and support that the hostel was established. Mr Dillicar was first elected to the council in 1931’, when he was twelfth on the list. Since then he has been re-elected each time. He has served on various committees of the council, and at present is chairman of the Transport Committee. Mr Dillicar stood as one of the Advance Hamilton candidates last May. Election Figures Some of the figures of the last municipal election have a special interest at present. Of a total of 6683 possible votes, Mr T. H. Melrose received 3729. Mr R. Braithwaite was twelfth on the list last May, with 2426 votes, and the top seven of the unsuccessful candidates were Messrs. H. M.
