TONIGHT’S PROGRAMMES STATE THEATRE Grant Mitchell. Nana Bryant and John Litel are featured in the Warner Bros* production ‘‘Father Is a Prince,” which opens a season today. Among Western stars Charles Starrett holds a high ranking position and in “The Fighting Buckaroo” he contributes another entertaining performance. The two films should be of wide appeal. The eighth episode of the serial “ Captain Midnight. ” will be screened at 7.30 p.m. THE ROYAL The bewitching glamour of a South Sea paradise is the background to ‘‘Wings Over the Pacific,” starring Inez Cooper and Edward Norris, which heads the weekend programme at the Royal. Eight big song hits are featured in Universal's lively musical comedy, "South of Dixie.” with Anne Gwynne and David Bruce. Episode 5 of the serial. "Raiders of Ghost City,” is also screened. CIVIC THEATRE " They Died With Their Boots On," with Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland in the co-starring roles, brings to life on the screen one of the most stirring chapters in the history of the old West. It tells for the first time on the screen, the true story of the man who made the phrase- " Custer's Last Stand ” a synonym for deathless courage. Gallant and adventurous, General George Custer won himself an eternal place in the history of his country when he and his regiment perished to a man in the battle of Little Big Horn. They knew as they rode forth into battle that certain death awaited them, but they also Knew that they would be holding' off the enemy until reinforcements could be brought. ROXY THEATRE Two well-contrasted films. "The More the Merrier” and "Lucky Jordan.” provide excellent entertainment. The first film, in which the leading roles are capably filled by Jean Arthur. Joel McCrea and Charles Coburn, offers a satirical commentary on the current housing shortage, and is a happy blend of comedy and romance. Allan Ladd and Helen Walker have the leading roles in "Lucky Jordan.” REGENT THEATRE Humphrey Bogart, who gave one of the finest acting performance's last year in "Casablanca” (not yet released in Hamilton, has the leading role in "Sahara,” a thrilling story of the desert. The film offers a satisfying combination of drama and suspense, and the interest of the audience is maintained until the final scene. An excellent supporting programme is also screened.
