CALL FROM GREECE ‘WELLINGTON. Friday Replying in the House of Representatives to the second reading debate on the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration Bill, the Minister of Finance, the Hon. W. Nash, said in due course there would be openings for volunteer personnel to work in conjunction with Unrra, to be sent from New Zealand.

During the committee stages Mr Nash said that New Zealanders were particularly interested in relief for Greece, and voluntary workers might be required for special work there. Mr Fraser said he had received a cable from Brigadier T. King, who was formerly quartermaster at Trentham and who was well known in Rugby circles. Brigadier King had stated that there was urgent need for winter clothing in Greece, where he was working in conjunction with Unrra. The position was not bad in Athens, but in the smaller towns and villages conditions were pitiable. Old clothing would do so long as it was warm, sound and washed or cleaned and mended. Mr Fraser said that clothing immediately available was being forwarded, but there would be need for a clothing drive throughout the country. He appealed to all citizens to support the drive and stressed the need for warm, sound clothing and not just cast-off garments. The bill was passed.

JAPANESE CRUSHEfi WASHINGTON, Nov. 23 General MacArthur announced that the Japanese bastion of Limon has been crushed by the American 32nd Division, which penetrated southward to the Leyte river.
