STATE HOUSING SCHEME
ALLOCATIONS FOR OCTOBER 186 HOMES IN HAMILTON WELLINGTON, Thursday To the end of last month a total of 2276 State rental houses and flats were allotted to returned servicemen, widows of servicemen and wives of prisoners of war by the Rehabilitation Department, according to figures released by the Minister of Rehabilitation, the Hon. C. F. Skinner, to-day. During October alone 145 houses and flats were allotted throughout the Dominion. The 50 per cent, preference given to returned servicemen was slightly exceeded in most districts and also in the Dominion figures, the total number of houses and flats let to civilians and returned servicemen during October being 289. There were still 4628 applications from returned men pending at October 31 for the Dominion and 30,999 from civilians. A total of 186 houses and flats were allotted to returned men at Hamilton up to the end of October, leaving 379 applications still pending. During the month 18 houses and flats were let or re-let, of which eight were allotted to returned servicemen. At the end of the month there were 1216 applications still pending from civilians.
