NEW POLICE INSPECTOR

TRANSFER TO HAMILTON CAREER OF MR J. D. O’NEILL Inspector J. D. O’Neill, for the past three years inspector in charge of the uniformed branch at Auckland, has been transferred to Hamilton as inspector in charge of the district in succession to Inspector G. B. Edwards, and he will probably take over his new duties within the next week or so. Inspector Edwards has been transferred to Wellington. Inspector O’Neill has had a long career in the pohee force, having served in parts of New Zealand. While he was in Hastings during the disastrous earthquake of 1931 he saw much of the destruction and reconstruction there, and later was transferred to Wellington as sub-inspector and was in charge of the police department at the Centennial Exhibition. While in Wellington he also acted as Court prosecutor. From Dunedin he went to Auckland in October, 1941,, and has been stationed there since* that time. A keen bowler, he has been a prominent member of the Auckland Bowling Club for the past three years. Sub-Inspector C. Harley, of Auckland, who was stationed in Hamilton for several years with the rank of sergeant, has been promoted to inspector and will replace Inspector O'Neill at Auckland.
