PREFABRICATED ROOMS
UNSUITABLE FOR SCHOOLS Prefabricated class-rooms came in for criticism in a report to the Auckland Education Board by its architect, Mr A. B. Miller. He recommended that no more prefabricated classrooms of the present type should be erected. Mr Miller favoured the provision of temporary buildings, which he considered were far more satisfactory and which could be erected at about two-thirds of the cost of prefabricated buildings. The green New Zealand timber caused the sections to divide, and he had received complaints of draughtiness. Already many of the roofs were beginning to leak. The board approved the report and decided to forward it to the Education Department for favourable consideration.
